While observing the squirrel activities this summer, and noticing how abundant they are, I noted that there are also quite an abundance of oversized acorns being shed from the oak trees in the area I live. I've finally come to the conclusion that the coldness and longevity of these two activities - acorn production and size of squirrels is how the winter's severity is predicted.

although i hold qualifications in environmental conservation, i had this argument with one of my instructers.....
why when for arguments sake, we remove trees from an area to return it to heathland, do we call it conservation, when in actuality all we are doing is suspending natural progression, surely conservation is a practice in human aesthetics.
fair enough certain rare species are protected, but it should not be called conservation.

I have a 4 way adapter socket which serves power to 4 hi-fi seperates. I notice that when they are connected to the socket and the main switch is in the on position that the hifi seperates have a almost inaudible hum despite being turned off.

Ok, heres one to tease the little grey cells:

David B is a little old man from the UK who spent his life educating children to be aware of nature and the environment,
He has 201+ hits on his question.

AL GORE: Former VP and politico of a very BIG NATION (uk is a very wee nation).. he has 160+ hits on practically the same question.

WHAT DOES THIS TELL US ABOUT THE AVERAGE BRIT VS AMERICAN'S ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS ??????
DISCUSS...... that means use your brains, not spend the next three days insulting each other!

I've read many articles about the benefits of using ethanol to power cars instead of gasoline. But I haven't read any about the unintended consequences of such a move. All of the articles have painted a rosy picture. But I'm not sure I believe that. What, for example, are the consequences of using surface water - the supply we use for drinking and growing essential foods we eat - to power our cars? Does anyone have an answer to this question?

If you have a jug of water with ice filled to the brim and ice melts the water does not overflow because ice takes up the same mass as the water they displace. So dont icebergs take up the same mass as the water they displace. In other word why will water levels increase cause major flooding due to global warming, wont the levels stay the same.
