This worries me - not one response to my previous question about Pascua Lama - The PL project will have a huge, adverse environmental effect if it is implemented!

How can the human race survive the threat of global warming when not only are goverments competing to burn more fossil fuels but a vast portion of the population actually believe that armageddon is coming, and that we are powerless to act because it is 'God's will'?

Me and my co workers are playing a game to help raise money for the red cross, and we would like some help on finding this question so we can earn points, the more points the more money the game gets and the more money the game gets we mail the points to our local red cross, but we only do this at our red cross because we give our own money, Thanks:)
P.S. This is not a joke.

I am doing a research project on Supervolcanoes and their climate effects. If I were to (hypethetically) say that The supervolcano under Yellowstone National Park were to erupt, I know that the surfuric acid cloud would kill everything within between 250-700miles, create a nuclear winter, result in lower temperatures by 10-15C, and destroy our ecosystems.

How long would it take before the ecosystems were able to recovery, and how long would (the remainder) of humans be forced to survive with limited vegetation? And how long would the nuclear winter last? (I have heard people state between 4-5years, up to 10-12 years?)

Thanks for any possible assistance.
:-)

Even when turned off, things like hairdryers, cell phone chargers and televisions use energy? In fact, the energy used to keep display clocks lit and memory chips working accounts for 5 percent of total domestic energy consumption and spews 18 million tons of carbon into the atmosphere every year!

Hey.. I really need some help. I have to do a project on overpackaging and I choose flash drives. They have a lot of excess packaging and I was wondering if anyone knows a site of someone I can contact that would possibily give me details on how much trash is being added to landfills because of this. Also if anyone wants to throw some numbers out, I guess that would be fine too.

The industrial waste product dihydrogen-oxide is is spewing from factors, cars and even homes. It's released into the atmosphere and makes its way into our rivers and streams and oceans.

Given all the climate change, isn't anyone concerned about this!?

What about the health of our children?

George w. bush promised SAFE and RENEWABLE energy. So what does he do? he starts makin freakin nuclear power plants. i personally would rather have a co2 problem that plants have the chance of using compared to a uranium problem for the next 8 billion years. Biodiesel is the best i can think of but just not nuclear power. we already have barrels in the ocean with a hundred year life and theyve been in there for 50 so that leaves us with 50 years to find away to clean it up and remove it. **** the W!

Do they not realize that climate change is a naturally occuring phenomenon? Now after all those times of climate changing over and over again, all of a sudden they know how to stop climate change and all we have to do is to shovel billions of $$$ to other countries? This stuff sounds like a wealth redistribiution scam to me.

What do we really know about climate change anyway?

It's much better to work to limit pollution than to go try to stop something that cannot be stopped in the first place.

Why is it that in places with water shortages, people are told not to take baths and to take showers instead, to try not flushing the toilet when it's not necessary, etc.

When you take a bath or flush the toilet the water is drained away to the sewer where is goes to a sewage plant and the water is cleaned and put back into the water system. So if no water leaves the system, why do we need to take less baths? Surely there is no water being used up except for a tiny amount that evaporates from your bath.

The London bid for the 2012 olympics pledged to be the greenest games so far. But will it be delivered? The planning documents and environmental statement for the Olympic Park suggest that no energy performance requirements further than current building regulations will be enforced, leaving it to the building's developers' to incorporate sustainability measures. Furthermore, London 2012 nor the ODA have released details on their carbon offsetting plans for the travel aviation emmisions released during the games. Marketing material suggest that the Olympic Park will be fueled by renewable energy, whereas a CCHP plant is planned running on fossilfuels, again leaving any implementation for solar, wind and biogas energy up to the constraints of the developer's construction programmes and budget. It seems yet again that the UK authorities are issuing spin giving a misleading impression, whilst missing a unique opportunity to ensure a truly environmentally sustainable olympics.
