This worries me - not one response to my previous question about Pascua Lama - The PL project will have a huge, adverse environmental effect if it is implemented!

Pascua-Lama is a project involving open pit mining of a field of gold, silver and copper in the high mountains south of Atacama on the border between Chile and Argentina at an altitude of over 4,500 metres. It has been the cause of controversy and public protest in Chile, including demonstrations and petitions presented to the Chilean government.

Some nightmare in the Latin south i belief, The Chilean Gov wants to get their slice of a huge Gold strike under a glacier in the Chilean Mountains (Andes)..... problem is that its under a glacier that feeds an entire River system, they blast the glacier and the river gos down the environmental toilet so fast that the fish will not know what has hit them... then the natives... then the forests and surrounding farmland... then the whole water table through heavy metal contamination.

Hrrrrrrrm, Ruin a couple of hundred thousand square miles of pristine land and grab the cash or say no and trey to find a better way to get at the gold....or just say to hell with the gold.

.... now what would Bush do ?
