I have had an 'Olivetti 200 Solar' pocket calculator for some 15 years now and it is used daily, night and day, without ever having been outside my home. Why can't the technique that produced this calculator be used for mobile air conditioning?

I'm thinking not, but a buddy of mine insisted that mass ethanol production would be just as bad as current CO2 emmissions with a fossil based fuel diet. I would think the increase in biomass from plant life might factor in, and also that much of the CO2 might be harvested to create optimal growth condition in "plant growth factories" etc...assuming hydroponic media would be used. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like the CO2 consumption of the plants harvested would outweigh the CO2 released during ethanol fermentation.

Its a school project, where we have to put an animal in a 2 litter bottle with food, water, shelter, etc. The catch- the bottle has to be airtight with no airholes, or any opening. We have a month and it has to live at end of month. Impossible to cheat, stored at classroom.

"The human population of the planet is estimated to now have passed 6 billion people. But are large numbers themselves a problem? Europe for example, has higher population densities than Asia. There are more than two sides to the debate on whether population numbers equate to over-population or not."

If you melted all the ice in the world, some 23 million cubic kilometers in all, the oceans would rise 1.7% or about 180 feet (60 meters). It would do a lot of damage but it would not be the end of the world? It would take a lot more water than this to put the planet totally under water, why do so many people think that global warming will end the world? Plus if you dumped that much fresh water into the Ocean it would cause an ice age in the long run, is this not simply the natural cycle of the Earth?

Do they not realise that they will be running out of clean air, water and food along with the rest of us?It makes me mad to see so many people using OUR resources like they are the only ones entitled to them, leaving my children with less resources and more mess.I'm so sick of this "well,it won't affect me" attitude. It will affect them.OK,I'm going to take a deep breath now.

Pets are often imprisoned and can be strangely empowered, even in their slavery, as well. The relationship between a human and a pet seems dissimilar with symbiosis (healthy intestinal bacteria come to mind), although there seem also to be many analogies.
