Pets are often imprisoned and can be strangely empowered, even in their slavery, as well. The relationship between a human and a pet seems dissimilar with symbiosis (healthy intestinal bacteria come to mind), although there seem also to be many analogies.

It is symbiosis. It is mutualistic in the sense that the pet benefits from the human with providing food and water and the human benefits with safety, companionship (helps with mental stability), or pest control. Remember, symbiosis is all about physiological needs being met not whether or not an animal's or human's rights are violated.

I once saw a video of a monkey walking a dog. It was a funny video. I laugh every time I see it. But come to think of it, some human must have arranged it. I mean, there is no way a monkey could get a pet dog. No pet shop will sell dogs to monkeys, and neither would a pound. Besides, how is the monkey going to buy dog food? And with what money. Monkeys don't have jobs. Well, maybe some monkeys have jobs, like organ grinders, but usually the human keeps all the money. So to answer your question, no, of course no animals have pets. That's a human concept. Now, ask if animals have professional sports teams and keep statistics on wins and losses, that's an entirely different matter.

Many species of ants keep aphids as "pets', or perhaps a better analogy would be "cattle". The ants 'milk' the aphids and eat the sugary solution they secrete.

Strange but true.

CERTAIN BREEDS OF ANTS....HARVEST,MOVE,HERD AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF APHIDS who produce "honeydew", as a side product of their ravaging plants!!!the honeydew is "milked" from the aphids and a symbiosis of sorts has developed...within which the ants protect the aphids from "predatory attacks"AND MOVE THE APHIDS TO "SELECT PLANTS",sometimes over long distances ;and the ants cannot survive without the "HONEYDEW"!!!HONEY DO THIS ...HONEYDEW THAT!!!WHO'S TO PITY????LIFE CAN BE SWEET ON ANY LEVEL!!!!

race horses often have pet dogs and goats that they become attached to. When they don't see their pets they do not do as well in a race. Also, Koko the gorilla has a pet cat.

I'm pretty sure that I am actually my cats' pet. They seem to be getting the better end of the deal (neutering aside).
