Do they not realise that they will be running out of clean air, water and food along with the rest of us?It makes me mad to see so many people using OUR resources like they are the only ones entitled to them, leaving my children with less resources and more mess.I'm so sick of this "well,it won't affect me" attitude. It will affect them.OK,I'm going to take a deep breath now.

This is in answer to Common Sense:I use compact flourescent light bulbs, this is the fifth day I've used air conditioning this summer, and I turn it off at night.I only turn it on when the temperature is going to be at least 98.I use a clothesline,I turn off and unplug the computer when I'm done with it.I turn off the power strip that has the t.v. plugged into it.I never go anywhere because there it's too warm to walk with the baby during the day.I mean,I don't get out more than once a week, and sometimes not even that. When I have the air conditioner on,it's set on 80 or higher.I recycle everything I can and try not to buy things I can't.I even buy used clothing(not underwear or socks)to save the little bit of pollution and energy new clothes take.I very rarely use cleanser with chlorine in it because of the pollution it causes when it's made and when it's used. When my internet service is due again,I'm not going to renew. Then I won't use the computer ever, saving more energy. That's all.

Short answer for a long question.... People are ignorant. Most don't know where everyday items come from, or what it takes from the environment to make them. We've not been "conditioned" to realize that the earth is not an endless source for oil, metals, gas, etc. If people really understood what is being done to the environment, and sit and figure out just what the entire world's population is draining away from it, then more people would be doing what they could to conserve our precious planet! nuff said...

I think because it takes initial effort to care for the environment. But what people don't seem to realize is that soon the recycling and and other choices to be earth concientious quickly become a way of life.
I also think that in regards to the manufactures etc...it costs extra money and there is little profit in keeping the air/water clean, and in creating products that are earth-friendly. Unfortunately, there is not as much of a demand for the earth-friendly products right now.
I also think that the effects to the earth are not immediate, they are more of a long-term thing. People do not see that their choices etc are harming the earth or they just think "Oh well, this won't affect me".
It's a shame really.

The truth of the matter is most people care mostly about themselves and their own desires. These desires can also extend to their family and friends.
There are a few people that will care about something on an ideological level, however these seem to becoming fewer and farther between. This is what I call the postmodern dilemma.
If you really want to make a difference you have to cater to people's wallets, families & friends, etc. If they care about their wallets you can explain to them, for example, that by putting in fluorescent lights they will save an exponental amount of money in time through more efficiency and having to replace the bulb less often. If they care about loved ones you could try to convince them that their loved ones and their loved ones loved ones will be adversely affected if they do not help to become part of the solution.
And with some people there is just simply no reasoning with. You just have to let karma that its course. Others you just need to read what is important from them. Of course for those who believe in higher ideals simply just need to be exposed to the right information and support system.

Because no one cares about anything other than themselves these days or what is comfortable for them... and sadly doing anything to help the environment isn't.
Honestly... I think it's scary as hell that people don't care more. Cause things aren't going too well and they aren't going to get better the more everyone ignores the problems.

Why would you think that most people do not care about the environment ?
Do you think that most people want to live in a dirty crappy world
without clean water or resources ?
What are you doing personally that makes any difference or
improvement to the environment ?

Well the environment is sooooooooooo big. And people see themselves as just one, little, tiny, teensy, winnsey, individual with 6,500,000,000 people in the world. And they say, "It's no use". They don't believe they make any difference.

It has been here; it will always be here.
Unless they see some demonstrable damage, it's fine.
