I have always had an interest in audio/video, especially home theater. I would love to be involved in it as a profession. Trouble is, most reputable A/V stores (not big box stores i.e. Best Buy) want somemone with experience obviously. I really can't afford to go back to school because I am still paying off my student loans. I feel I have a lot of knowledge and would learn fast. I would be interested in installing, designing, programming, etc... Any suggestions? I live in Columbus, Ohio area.

I bought it at a yard sale thinking it was some sort of a mixer. It's a 'Telfax GX-440'. Has a big microphone hooked to it. A numeric pad similar to that of a phone....two phone jacks, four ports marked mic1, radio in HP1, mic2, AUX out, AUX in, mic 4 and AUX in B, a digital timer, bunch of buttons..line seize, radio in, pulse, discon, 100% VU, limiting, mix...etc etc. Been wondering what it is for awhile.

I've got a couple of small moniters that came with DVD travel kit for the car. I'd like to be able to use the screens as secondary monitors. They have the standard "yellow" RCA jack similar to those found in the back of your cable/dvd player that goes to the same kind of jack in the back of your TV. Thanks for any insightful help you can provide.

How do you connect a hook up wire to a battery? I'm trying to make an electric motor out of a "D" cell battery, and unfortunately, the store I went to didn't have a battery holder to make the electric motor start, so I got hook up wires instead. I just don't know how to use them. Can anyone help by today? Thanks!

In 2/09, per FCC rules, all analog TV broadcasting will cease and everything will be digital. So, every current, non-digital, non-HD TV, VCR, DVD recorder (recording off the air), etc. will no longer work.

From what I see at Circuit City, the current crop of DVD recorders all have analog tuners (NTSC and PAL. not ATSC). Therefore, they have a lifespan of about 20 months and then they'll be useless, other than playing prerecorded DVDs. Am I missing something? Why are these not available with digital tuners, like the current LCD and plasma TV's?

I am currently moving to another country and would like to take with me some appliances that use adapters, most of these are decorations from holidays such as lanterns and fiber optics. Because of the different voltage and plugs, it would be nearly impossible to get voltage/plug converters to use all the appliances at once so I would like to know if its possible to change an adapter to battery operated to bypass this problem. Thanks.

The laptop will be £650 (about $1300) and the extended warranty £269 for four years (bout $530).
It seems expensive but it will include accidental damage. Even if nothing happened, just before it runs out I can smash it and they will give me vouchers for the equivalent at that time. Will this equivalent actually be less than the 269 I paid.

(its an acer, got 2gb RAM, 1.6GHz dual core, 160Gb hard disk, 128MB Geforce Go 7300)

I plugged it in and heard a slight popping sound. The flash power output was set at 400 w/s. I pushed the 'Test' button to fire the flash and something inside the flash unit exploded. Sounded just like one of those small red fire crackers.
The unit still fires flashes.
I'm assuming that there are several capacitors in parallel in the circuit and that one of them exploded.
Is it possible for capacitors to explode & if so, what causes them to explode?

The unit was a White Lighting, UltraZAP UZ800 Flash Unit.
