You can go about this a couple of different ways. I'd suggest, if you're not used to doing electronics, that you get in touch with someone from Radio Shack before you begin to make sure you're doing a couple things:

1. Are you trying to replace an A/C adapter on something? If so, this is easy enough.. you need to first determine if the adapter has either positive or negative tip polarity, the size of the plug.. and.. go to Radio Shack! They have universal A/C adapters that you can pick the plug for.. as long as you know the size (best to bring the old one with you), the volts and the tip polarity, they can make you a new one in no time.

2. If you're trying to create a power-pack don't forget you can put a 5v regulator in-line off the hot pack feed to drop the voltage from 6v to 5v (for 4 battery configuration). 5 volts is sort of an odd requirement so that's why I put the A/C adapter first (presuming that's what it was anyway since batters only come in 1.5v increments).

3. Camera batteries (although a much higher amperage) have odd voltages like 5v, 7v, etc. Also remote control cars.. so you might want to look into those batteries also to find a 5v battery.

Hope something in here is useful.

Good luck!

It really depends upon what the amperage requirement is, and how sensitive the circuits are to an over-voltage situation. Batteries are pretty much all 1.5 volts, but with varying amperage outputs. You should find out from the place you bought the thing from just what they recommend using. Maybe there's a power supply that puts out the correct power. Good luck.

a AAA or AA batery is only 1.5 volts so use three and have 4.5 volts or just use 4 and have 6 an extra volt shouldn't hurt anything

maybe you could hook it up to a computer power supply-computers normally put out : +3volts, 5volts and 12 volts or alternatively, get yourself a regulated power supply
