They are very useful for people we do sports where timing yourself is important (running, swimming, etc.). Some of them have even memories so you can keep track of your progress.

I have had a couple. For all its fancy dials it only does one or two functions. It may have a stop watch linked to one of the buttons. The main function of a choreographic watch is to mark or "hack" time. This is used in celestial navigation. A partner holds a sextant in one hand until he gets the sight that he needs. He is trying to line a celestial body in the sight of his sextant. When the lower limb (bottom) of the celestial body is lined up onto the horizon he will yell "mark". The person with the watch then "hacks" the time. The small dials on the watch (called complications) are then frozen in time. This gives you four readings The hour, taken from the large dial, the minute, second, and 10th of a second. (Something close to that) You take this and along with the altitude and azimuth of the star you look up the info in an almanac and it gives you the name of a star. Do this three times and put it on a chart and you have a "fix" on a chart. That is about all those things do other than look kinda cool. Thanks.

I believe they are the most acurate watch, esp. if your measuring things by fractions of seconds.
