Most any Ni-MH battery is better than a NiCd. The Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries are newer technology. They do not have the "memory" effects that NiCd batteries have.

Plus -- in your example, the NiMH battery is twice the capacity of the NiCd battery so in that respect it is 'better'.

The plus side of a NiMH battery is more power, no memory effect, and it contains no heavy metals. The down side is that it is only good for about half the charge/discharge cycles of the NiCad battery.

The NiCad battery contains cadmium, a heavy metal that needs special handling and disposal. But the NiCad is a reliable battery that is good for about 1,000 charge/discharge cycles.
