I am not a new computer user, but an inexperienced one. I have no knowledge of programming, hacking, ect... The information on the net 'bout linux confuses me. Exactly what are the advantages of linux over windows, and (if i decied to use it) how do i use it?

I bought my computer from a computer fair and it had XP installed but after a few months of using it with no problem I started getting a "ballon" message saying my software wasn't geniune and i should "click" on the ballon to purchase a new one. I have tried to contact the seller but have been unsucceful. My problem now is I have stopped received updates from Microsoft and can't even use Windows Media player. It will cost me like $300 to purchase the geniune version and I can't afford it at all!!! What are my options and is there a cheaper or free way to get the genuine version?

i installed vista through an iso and now it won't boot, what made me even more angry is that its a common problem amoung vista premium. whats more is that my sister just got a new mac :( i need to repair vista because i have important work on it and i don't want to buy a new one like the warning said. i need to know if its possible to boot from an iso like you can in a mac. i tried using daemon tools and acronis os selector but it didn't work. any help is appreciated :)

ps: the reason my computer won't burn anything is because all the dvds i have are the wrong format, only for macs...doy for me i don't even have one.

I have an old 2004 Media Center XP on my desktop that's not hooked up to the internet and the TV on it worked fine. Recently I bought a new game and installed it on this desktop, and it required a newer version of nvidia, so I downloaded it to the laptop, and transferred it from here to the desktop. Now the game works fine, but the TV freezes after a minute. I thought maybe it was the TV signal, so I tried a DVD, and it does the same thing. What should I do?

I am having trouble entering my product key to install Microsoft 2003. When i enter it, it comes up with a message that I have entered the key in wrong. I look at it and it is right when I am entering it in. What can I do either buy a new Product key for Microsoft 2003 or just call for assistance to obtain a new product key? The one I am entering is XKXCC-TYJTG-9M2HR-P79DB-GKTBJ.I keep entering it and it says invalid.What am I doing wrong?

I want a free program that will let me put a store bought DVD, on my computer. Preferebly in MPEG4 format so it can go on my iPod, but if not I can do it in a seperate program.

I mean come on, Apple OS X is, at the most, $129, and I can get it for $69 with my student discount. Windows vista is $239 and full of bugs and glitches.

i am a complete novice at this but i have dvd files on my pc and i want to rip them to disc what steps do i take...do i have to shrink them first then rip them.....does anyone know of any free software to download to shrink the dvd then put them onto dvd...is it 2 completely different softwares needed??

Cannot install this game. My computer has enough spec. Even changed the game at the shop and alas still no joy. Recyclic Redundancy error on installation. Has anybody else had this problem? Seems like I am missing out on a good game :(

When I go to save an image in Photoshop it asks me how I want to save it. e.g Windows, Mac Master then asks me normal or interlaced?

The it asks me another question. I always click on whats recommended but would love to know more info on the options.

I have a digital camera and a laptop that I use together ofter. However sometimes I'll take a photo and cannot download it. It says there is an error, and it's an unreadable file. Most of these photos have been shot outdoors, but it doesn't always do that. How can I fix it?
