I bought my computer from a computer fair and it had XP installed but after a few months of using it with no problem I started getting a "ballon" message saying my software wasn't geniune and i should "click" on the ballon to purchase a new one. I have tried to contact the seller but have been unsucceful. My problem now is I have stopped received updates from Microsoft and can't even use Windows Media player. It will cost me like $300 to purchase the geniune version and I can't afford it at all!!! What are my options and is there a cheaper or free way to get the genuine version?
Thank you

You can purchase a key code, and micrsoft will help you with that. If you did not get the disc, you will need a key code. The only other option is, you could purchase XP Home at Walmart for 98.00. I would suggest you get a new one,do not get software off ebay.
There are programs, you can use to install the new keycode, and you will not have to reinstall everything one the computer.
You always want the disc that come with the computer.

If you know the name of the scum-bag that sold you the computer with the pirated Windows , and you rat him out to Microsoft. Microsoft will give your a huge discount on a genuine Windows license. Contact them.

Good luck.

You probably bought a stolen computer. I once did it too. We learn as we go. Microsoft operating systems are licensed to one computer. Sorry. I can't help you.
