Why? What kind of people do that? What is the point? Are they jealous? Do they not like other people having computers? Does it bring them joy?

I agree with that last answer. The aim is FRAUD basically. The companies who make the anti-virus progs make a mint of money, also with spyware they can find out everything about you and probably steal your identity if they want to. It's just to make lots and losh of dosh!!! It's sick really!!!

because people are stupid. They think it is some kind of joke to create it. Unless of course if you are an antivirus software company. For them it seems that it might be worthwhile to create viruses because people will buy their software to get rid of the viruses....something to think about there.
