Sometimes when I have 3 or 4 windows open on my computer my screen will freeze for a couple seconds and then black out for a second and turn back on. Could my Memory be malfunctioning or is there another cause?

I set my timings as follows:
DRAM CAS Latency: 3
DRAM Bank Interleave: 4-way
Precharge to Active: 3
Active to Precharge: 9
Active to CMD: 3
REF to ACT/REF to REF: 21
ACT (0) to ACT (1): 2
Read to Precharge: 3
Write to Read CMD: 4
Write Recovery Time
I wanted to set my DRAM Frequency to 200MHZ how it should be, but what's weird is that when I run tests with Everest using the DRAM Frequency: 200MHZ setting it shows me that I'm running at
Memory Bus 120.0 MHz
DRAM:FSB Ratio 3:5
When I go back into the BIOS and set DRAM Frequency to 333MHZ I get what it should be...
Memory Bus 200.0 MHz
DRAM:FSB Ratio 1:1
Here is the whole Everest test

My main concern here is over-clocking. I REALLY don't want to over-clock because I hardly ever turn off my computer and I would like to keep all my hardware running well for a while to come. Is there ANY way for me to REALLY test to see what I'm running at? I mean, do you guys think I'm safe anyway?

My dads computer was working fine until he installed a dvd burner and some extra memory but now he can't read the data on the hardrive at all, infact it seems to be blank, yet there was a ton of stuff on there before hand. The only way we could evn get the computer to boot up was by having another harddisc with windows preinstalled on it.

Could this be a compatibility issue between the 2 diffrent sets of memory chips or could it be because the drive is not connected correctlly. We really need to solve this as we have many family photos on the disc and also many of my mums manuscripts.

We thought about taking it to pc world but don't know if that would help at all. As i say we can access the disc its just it appears to be blank.

Please help.

An example would be the E4300. In its specification, it's FSB is 800 Mhz but when I hear people talking about it, they say that the FSB is 200 Mhz. What's the difference because this doesn't make any sense.

Granted, computers are made to add or remove software and hardware to and from. But, I noticed on these questions a lot of seeming younger pc users start messing around with sound cards, external drives, burning software, links to click on, all sorts of problems. Wouldn't it be better to search around on something like PCWorld Magazine, CNET, or read reviews of what's availible, and just buy a good pc with everything allready in the pc? I don't understand the need to experiment. I guess I am self-taught about pc performance. I simply don't tinker like these younsters do. Maybe my advice is to do research what's in stores. Many stores are good ones for advice. A lot of stores sell a lot of lousy pc stuff. Is anyone with me on this? Isn't it true there are pcs made with just about everything in it, that we don't have to install anything else these days?

I have a mother board with 4 memory slots. At present holding 2X 512Mb PC3200 DDR RAM. I am wondering whether to:
a) get another 2X 1Gb PC3200 DDR RAM (filling all the slots),
b) buy 2X 1Gb PC4000 DDR RAM and removing the old PC3200 chip. This way I would have faster memory, but less of it.

Any thoughts on what is best to do?

The hardrive in my computer fried. I don't mind losing most things, it was mostly written music that I had written so I can redo it, but a had about $500.00 in iTunes purchases on it. Does anyone know if iTunes keeps a record of what you purchase, or is their any way I can get that information? I know I can't off of my old hardrive, but... Anything would be helpful.

I am confused:

I have a new mobo with dual channel (4 memory slots) - on it are 2 sticks - both have the below sticker:

Samsung 512 MB 1Rx8 PC2 5300U 55 12 D3
M378T6553CZ3 - CE6 0702

they are sticking in slots 0 and 3 (one is black, one blue)

I want to upgrade the memory by using 2 x 1 GB so my question:

will these sticks in slots 1 and 3 work fine???

KINGSTON ValueRAM 1 Gb DDR2 SDRAM PC2-5300 CL5 (KVR667D2N5/1G)

(I am not getting the Samsung chips easily at my trusted shop)

Thanks in advance!

I want to connect my palm to any public pc so I can swap files on and off it like a usb key.
I thought that a particularly unnecessarily complicated and therefore cool way to do this might be to get a bluetooth usb key. I bought one off ebay for the paltry sum of £5 inc p+p, but
a/ the software is shite and
b/ it isn't plug and play and requires installation- I can't do this on public computers (e.g. at uni)

Does anyone know of any that might work natively like a usb key, and allow me to use my palm like a USB key?

Alternatively, what about a USB wi-fi adapter? they are only about £15- are they able to be used on computers to which you don't have admin access to install hardware?

The directions on Arctic Silver's site say to apply a thin line of paste over the processor (Over the heatspreader). There is nothing about spreading that paste out, other than when you apply the heatsink of the cooler. Do I need to use my finger to spread the paste around the heatsink or do I just plop the cooler on and have the pressure spread out the paste?
