Read your PC manual to find out what memory options are available. If you dont have the manual, download it from the mfg site

There are better "profiling" programs out there that would tell you exactly what RAM you currently have. Try searching for these free programs: "CPUz" - very small, does not need to be installed and will tell you the current speed of your RAM, or "SiSoft Sandra" - needs to be installed but will tell you everything about your computer.

Then you could look up the manual for your motherboard and see what the mfg recommends. Or you could just get the same speed (and hopefully the same brand RAM) and add it to your computer.

Personally I wouldn't trust any program to tell me how many empty slots there are - open your case and take a look. There should also be a brand and model number on the current RAM that you can research and match. Just make sure to UNPLUG your computer before touching anything inside!!

Here is the issue.

From what I see there, you did not include the important information as to what kind of memory you need.

You say DDR2 in the last paragraph, but I am pretty sure there are no P4 3.0 ghz processors that us DDR2 (though I could be wrong).

Your best bet would be to bring the memory that is currently installed in your computer to the computer store and they will tell you what you need. Just be careful not to expose the chip to static electricity.

2 Gigs of ram is not too much by any means. If you ever upgrade to Vista, you are going to want at least that much.

Crucial.com has a little application you can install that will determine what memory configuration you currently have and all of the various other options for upgrading.
