Windows root system32 ntoskrnl.exe.....how do I install this file on my comp?

You may remember my previous question this week about re-installing windows on my PC. If not, you needn't know the reasons etc. I just have a few more questions about the task:

1.) I am planning on a RAM upgrade from crucial. Should I install it FIRST before I do the clean install? I would think the install would go faster and smoother with 1.25GB ram compared to my pcs original 256MB.

2.) About how long will this take? (Just the clean install of windows and typical drivers). (Getting my Apps downloaded etc. will take months)

3.) I have Verizon DSL which requires its own software and connection before you can use it. However, as soon as you install Windows and connects I was told that I would get a virus???

4.) I supposedly have a "hidden dell partition"?? Would it be advisable to use that instead?? If so, will everything be deleted? I need to totally put my computer back to factory condition.

I appreciate your assistance!

Two out of 3 of my external FireWire Hard Drives do not work when plugging them into a different PC. Original PC is a HP d530 and all three drives work. Other (newer) PC is a HP Pavilion m7680n (Media Center). Two of the 3 drives do not work in it. Both PC's have XP SP2. Neither Drive has drivers to install, they are plug n play in XP. One of the 2 "bad" drives is seen by the PC in explorer but says it's got an i/o error. The 3rd drive is not seen at all. But when you put the drives back on the original PC they are both fine. Have been working on this for 3 hours. Help ?

Im making a new pc. I will buy a amd cpu, new ram, a new case... and keep hard drives and graphic card from the old one. But I have a problem... My graphic card is agp, not pci, so I need a motherboard with a agp slot... I don-t know if it exists, since the pci graphic cards are more actual... Please help me, give me names of motherboards compatibles... My graphic card is an Ati radeon 9600 pro 256mb. My new system will have a AMD X2 4200 cpu, 2GB ram, so it have to be compatible with these components... Thank you

I own a P4 1.7GHZ PC with a single AGP slot and 5 PCI slots. Currently the system has a video card in the AGP slots and a Voodoo 2 PCI videocard to give a total of 2 monitors for my Win 2K3 desktop. I've tried adding a 3 videocard into the mix (into another PCI slot) but winodws refuses to install it complaining about error code 10. I am unable to adjust IRQ settings for any of the cards.

Would a solution be to find a newer PCI video card circa 1999+ ? Or are there dirt cheap dual monitor AGP cards available instead?

What is the cheapest (used is fine) solution into upgrading my Win2K3 system to use 3 monitors on my desktop. I dont care for 3D graphics abilities, only 32bit color display and 1280x1024 rez.

Early last year, I bought a Liteon 16x dual layer dvd burner, which came with CyberLink PowerDVD 5.0 (oem) dvd decoder software....I just built a new PC, installed the drive....now DVD's don't play, PowerDVD and Windows MediaPlayer 11 both crash when I click "Play"...I can play DVD-based games like Battlefield 2, Gun, GTA San Andreas...Windows Media Player knows exactly what movie I want to play, it shows the title, chapters, etc...PowerDVD knows if its a dvd movie or dvd video game is in the drive.
I am running WinXP Pro, 2 gb of ram, Core 2 Duo e6600, Liteon SHW-160P6S dual layer dvd burner....My software appears to be up-to-date....
The latest patch of PowerDVD...well, half way through the update process, I get an error message, "Catastrophic failure"

I am clueless on how to solve this. The FAQs pages on Cyberlink's page stink.....

I did some system tunning using nTune for my desktop com. Then I noticed that it did not change the raw settings for the system like BIOS. Computer restarts just fine so far. I entered BIOS to overclock the system and I only changed the voltage by 0.2+ (CPU, SATA, PCI-E) It only had three options: 0.1+, 0.2+, 0.3+. I never thought that this kind of change would be much at all because I previously overclocked 680i motherboard with no problem. When the Vista Ultimate rebooted, some loud spark was caused. I saw blue lightningin side the casing becase I had it open then. The blue lightning was right below the dvd driver where nothing was mounted. I don't find burn marks but some burning smell. I don't understand why the little voltage change could cause this kind of eletric sparks. or was it a big change? (0.2+ v). Did it burn my whole computer or is it just the motherboard or the power supplier. Does anyone know something like this? Ga-8n-sli(gigabyte), 4g 667ram, pentiumD, geforce7800gt

I am trying to set up a new server, and I'm having a problem. When I tried to install Windows Server 2003, it said there were no hard drives detected. There are actually two SATA hard drives set up in a mirror. Our origional IT Manager put the computer together and set up the raid, but we never installed an OS on it, and now he's in Iraq and I'm the newbie. I did figure out that I needed to install the SATA RAID drivers from the gigabyte website to the motherboard...so I downloaded the driver, put it on a floppy, inserted the floppy, and tried to boot the server to install the drivers. It didn't work, it just keeps asking me to remove the disk and reboot the computer. Can anyone tell me how to get this driver installed on the motherboard so I can get this OS loaded and the new server running???

I've recently added an Nvidia Geforce 7600 GT to my pc, which I think is gd enough for my motherboard. Yet, sometimes, my computer still chugs and lags when I set the games' graphics setting to the highest. Is it the matter of low RAM memory or low frame rate of processor?
