Dual Core IS Core 2 Duo.

Core 2 Duo is CPU with a dual core so your question is the same but a dual core is faster than a P4 :)

The dual core athlon is suppose to be a much better gaming machine where the pentium is able to handle alot more spreadsheets powerpoints timed tasked at the same time. As far as Items not running on a dual core have never had a problems but you can easly shut down I processor or select a primary if you are using any software that old the only problem you might encounter is the game will run at twice the speed then you must go to the program files and insert "use game timers" into the program code any tech support can walk you throught that on a new system hopefully this helped you

Okay first off, dual core refers to any processor that has 2 cores. A Pentium D is a type of dual core processor, an Athlon 64 X2 is a type of dual core processor, and a Core 2 Duo is a type of dual core processor. So a Core 2 Duo refers to a specific line of dual core processors.

I could go into a whole lot of detail, but let me just make a list of currently availabe processors, from best to worst:

Core 2 Duo > Athlon 64 X2 > Pentium D > Athlon 64 > Pentium 4.

If you need further advice, send me an email, its in my profile.

A more important consideration...look at the software you want to use. Will it run on dual core? Many won't.

If you have the means (money) get a Core2Duo processor. I have a e6600 Core2Duo chip in my computer and its very fast.
