You may remember my previous question this week about re-installing windows on my PC. If not, you needn't know the reasons etc. I just have a few more questions about the task:

1.) I am planning on a RAM upgrade from crucial. Should I install it FIRST before I do the clean install? I would think the install would go faster and smoother with 1.25GB ram compared to my pcs original 256MB.

2.) About how long will this take? (Just the clean install of windows and typical drivers). (Getting my Apps downloaded etc. will take months)

3.) I have Verizon DSL which requires its own software and connection before you can use it. However, as soon as you install Windows and connects I was told that I would get a virus???

4.) I supposedly have a "hidden dell partition"?? Would it be advisable to use that instead?? If so, will everything be deleted? I need to totally put my computer back to factory condition.

I appreciate your assistance!

1. Definitely YES.

2. Sorry I'm not familiar w/ Windows ll but Win XP installation plus drivers take about an hour.

3. That's odd, unless their site gets successfully hacked everyday.

4. If you want to go back to default condition, why not just do a repair. It can be done faster. For Win XP, here's a good way of doing the repair:

I don't know or not familiar with Windows II??? But an absolutely to your NO. 1, 40 minutes with no problems for No. 2, Verizon DSL does not require any software before you connect. If you're referring to the CD that they tell you to install, well, that's just a bunch of useless programs that they push. All you need to know is your POP3 and SMTP data for email and that's about it. The Dell partition is not hidden. It is generally the D drive configuration for Recovery on your main hard drive.
