There should be a plug socket on the mother board. look first at the back of the CD-ROM then look for a plug socket that looks the same on the mother board, use a ribbon strap connector, make sure that ti is the right way round. ie, usually the RED strip on the ribbon cable goes to pin 1 which is the pin closest to the power plug in the back of the CD-ROM, look very closely at the plug on the motherboard, in most cases there will be a missing pin or a slot or it may tell you which side has pin 1, again put the ribbon cable with the red stripe into pin 1. there will also be a smaller cable which connects to the sound card and to a plug on the back of the CD_Rom this is usually on the opposite side to the power cable.hope this has helped.

If you have just fitted a new MSI K9N mother board then you will notice that there is only one IDE connection on the mother board, This motherboard is setup for Sata hard drives and the IDE connection is for the CD/DVD roms... but you can use the DIE connection to fit a IDE hard drive. but you will need a double connection IDE cable... one for the hard drive and one for the CD/DVD,

Now here is what you need o do to get the hard drive and CD/DVD rom working as they should.
Use the jumpers on the back of the drives...

(1) Set the hard drive to MS (master) with the pin out (jumper) at the back of the drive
(2) set the CD/DVD Rom as SL (Slave)

If you was to set them both at CS (cable select) then your CD/DVD would be the C:/ drive... Because it is the first unit on the cable and the hard drive would be the second unit,

Connect the drive to the end of the cable, and set the jumper on the back of the drive to "master" or "CS" / "Cable Select". There should be a drawing of the different jumper positions on the drive.
