DSL is just the internet connection. A slow processor is a slow processer regardless of how you connect to the internet. Other things like lower end graphics cards, ram, memory, to how full your hard drive and how many other programs you are running will all affect performance.

Your DSL connection is going as fast as it can, however download speeds are affected by the quality of your phone line, how far it is from your ISP's central facility, traffic congestion, and the performance of your router. It could be what's on your computer too. Make a habit of cleaning out your cookies, temporary files, and offline web pages, scan for viruses and spyware at least once a week, and, if you can afford it, upgrade your computer's RAM memory. It will make a difference

What do you mean by "run slow" even with dsl? Are you talking about download speeds and internet or just opening applications etc in general? how fast you download depends on the server or website you're accessing. I have an 11Mbps line and sometimes it feels like dial up but most times it's fast.

Here's some special recipe to speed up your computer:
1.Remove Unnecessary Software.
You may have a bunch of software packages on your hard drive that are no longer needed, or they were gratuitously installed when you downloaded some other package. Toolbars, file-sharing programs, free email enhancers, online shopping "companions" and download managers are notorious for this practice. These uninvited guests can put a big drag on your startup time, cause web pages to load slowly, and generally slow down your computer.
2.Clean Your Registry
Registry Cleaner can cleans your system registry of unnecessary entries that are created when you install or remove programs on your computer. An "orphaned" registry entry can confuse Windows and cause a delay. Slimming down your registry will make Windows run faster. Sometimes it can speed up your computer up to 300%.Top 5 Regsitry cleaners can be found on this page:

3.Clean out spyware and Malware
Spyware and malware can slow down your system a lot, because they use your resources to generate popup ads, send spam, and often interfere with the operation of good programs.
4.Stop Programs from starting on Windows boot
To prevent programs from launching themselves at start-up.Click Start-Run-Msconfig-Startup,then uncheck unused programs.
5.Clean history and temp files.
Deleting temporary and unnecessary files from your hard drive can improve your computer's performance.
This site http://www.speed-up-computer.info/index.php?t=speed lists a step-by-step guide, hope that help you.
Good Luck!

I too switched to high speed and was still slow...I upgraded my memory from 256 MB to 700 plus MB....it runs great now...when ever you enter a new technology to an older computer, you need to upgrade what you have.

Does it run slow when you're NOT using the Net?
If so, then the problem could be a lack of RAM, a slow CPU, or too many programs running.

Connection speed usually depends on your location, you might be in a bad area, or try restarting your computer, or doing an internet check

If you are referring to download speed, it is also dependent on the server you are connected to and not just on your own connection bandwidth.
If you are referring to your PC's speed, defrag your hard drive, minimize unnecessary processes in the background and add more RAM; they are cheap now but maybe not for long.

You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.
These are cleanup tools. Ad-aware cleans files, and SpyBot cleans the registry.
Good luck and Happy Computing!
