i was using the external hard drive. it just shut off while i was using it. a few second later, i smell something burn. it must be the hard drive not the external adapter. how can i get the data out? i am using laptop and can't connect to the master hard drive like the pc. please help

why there are CD reader speeding at 58x, but it was almost impossible to easily find a 2x floppy disk (I may remember there were some of them commercially available), despite the fact they were on the market for a much longer period?

I'm looking to buy a mouse, but not sure which of the following 3 I want. I do not want a cordless, so please do not suggest one.. I play online games a lot and the last thing I need is to run out of juice in my mouse. Here's the three I'm looking at:

At first, i restarted my computer then a message came up saying 'Disk read error' something something, then i ran chkdsk and it went to 100% then to 50% again and froze there, so i restarted the computer and instead of getting disk read error, i got NTLDR missing. what the heck? how do i fix this ToT. b^_^d

i recieved an e-mail helpig me with my dell computer which crashed a while ago and he helped me letting me know i could buy some type of usb adapter. never heard of it nor do i know where i could buy it, does anyone know the name of it and where i could buy them and the price?? this is what he sent me


"Best thing you can do is to take the hard drive out of your duff computer. You can buy special USB adapters to connect different kinds of hard disk drives. So it depends if it is 3.5mm IDE drive, a SCSI drive or an ATA drive. Once you know that, you can buy an adapter fairly cheaply and then use someone else computer (with XP on it) to get files off your disk."

When i try to go to task manager by hitting the ctrl/alt/delete keys on the keyboard its just says disabled by administration, yet i never disabled it.. i can't find a way to fix it.

ok so thanks to the helpful people on here i reinstalled the driver for my sound card. But before i deleted it, I remember a multimedia audio controller or something and I dont thave that now. I still have no sound, i'm assuming because I dont have the multimedia controller. So if you know anything please help me out!

basically, i want to upgrade and replace my current 40 gig hard drive to my 80 gig one but i want everything else on my computer the same,so i just have a larger hard disk space and thats it. is this possible? or do i have to format and reinstall windows xp and copy all my files, as afterall, the data is stored on the prevouis hard drive (40 gig one). will i lose my data if i upgrade my hard drive?

ok i have a compaq s6500nx i need my stuff off the hardrive(the comp is not working)the drive is a ata i think thats what it is & on my new comp the drives is sata i see it 16 pin hookup but goes to the dvd drive can i hook it up to that & get my files or just use it in there......thx

If I boot the machine in safe mode, keyboard works fine. When windows starts, numlock light goes out, and keyboard no longer works. Hear a clicking sound in the system unit when keys are pressed. Any thoughts?

Basically I have a moto q and I want to synch up my work calendar with my personal calendar in the Moto Q. But I don't want all my personal information going on my computer at work.

Is there a way to just download my work calendar into the Moto Q and NOT vice-versa? I might want to do this with my tasks & contacts too.

I bought a new sata hard drive thinking it would be that same as the drive I already had. It is a sata drive and the ribbon cable I have does not fit it. Can I convert to the sata or do i have to get a different drive?

I just got this computer from my father and its pretty old 3 of 4 years. He had a friend to fix it because we were having some issues and i think in the process this friend installed a newsound card. Well this computer is so old that I had to install tons of updates, and after i did this my computer had no MB so i decided to uninstall the server pack 2. And when i did my sound complelty stop functioning. I've tried several times to reinstall the driver and it will not let me. I never got the installation cd because this computer was given to me. I complelty unstalled everything from my computer ater it stopped working hoping to reinstall it. I really don't know what to do now. I have no sound and I don't know what to do and how to fix it. ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!
