i recieved an e-mail helpig me with my dell computer which crashed a while ago and he helped me letting me know i could buy some type of usb adapter. never heard of it nor do i know where i could buy it, does anyone know the name of it and where i could buy them and the price?? this is what he sent me


"Best thing you can do is to take the hard drive out of your duff computer. You can buy special USB adapters to connect different kinds of hard disk drives. So it depends if it is 3.5mm IDE drive, a SCSI drive or an ATA drive. Once you know that, you can buy an adapter fairly cheaply and then use someone else computer (with XP on it) to get files off your disk."

what is an "Enclosure"...ok this is the situation. my computer crashed and i got the hard drive out. apparently there is a usb out there that can plug into my hard drive and go to into another computer so i can access the files and get it off the hard drive. that's what i'm looking for

You can buy an enclosuer

MAKE SURE IT IS A 3.5" ENCLOSUER

There are indeed several types of "external drive enclosures"
You can buy them at BestBuy, Frys, CompUSA, or any good computer supply. You can get them online from any number of sources. (I use http://geeks.com)

Not sure exactly how the rest of the email went telling you how to recover using that but there is more to it than just getting the enclosure if you are attempting recovery. If you are too the point you are going to remove the drive from your computer and add it to an external drive box then you are near the point of just getting professional advice from a computer technician. (It may save you alot of headaches.)

Just match the size of your drive with the case and make sure that you get the right interface a wide flat cable is IDE a really skinny cable is usually SATA
