Sounds like you have a computer upgrade for XP onto a 2000 mechine. XP will work with Pentium 4 much better than it will with Pentium 3. Best suggestion to relieve the situation would be to change back to 2000 and then the computer won't be so slow.

Your best bet is to re-install your operating system (Windows XP, etc.).
Put the CD that came with your computer in,
then re-start the computer,
then hit "enter" when it asks to re-boot from the CD.

Delete the old partition, and install on the new partition.
This will get rid of all the junk (spyware, adware) that has accumulated on yout computer.

Then go to "Windows Updates" and install all of the updates,
which will keep the junk from getting back into your computer.

Sounds like you have viri or spyware.

Your operating system is defective. I recommend replacing
it with one of:

http://fedora.redhat.com
http://www.opensuse.org
http://www.debian.org
http://www.ubuntu.org
http://www.slackware.org
http://www.freebsd.org
http://www.opensolaris.org

Any of these will be more reliable, less susceptible to
viri, uses your hardware more efficiently, and they're
all free.
