First I think you should ask your self if your really want to partition your drive. If the awnser is yes then this is what will happen and how to do as such.
Begin your gonna lose what your have on this computer due to the simple fact your going to FDISK / RE-partition the drive. This is done by doing these simple steps.
1.) make sure you have your Product Id code for windows Xp
2.) REboot machine with WinXP Pro cd /dvd
3.) follow setup step provide for you
4.) when you get to the drive partioning section you need to press after selecting your harddrive . D for delete partition.
5.) confirm this action as yes/true
6.) then press C to CReate partition but instead of the main full amount of the hard drive partion space divide to what size you feel is comfortable for the main boot section where windows XP Pro will be installed to .
7.) Then redo past few steps for remaining space.
Now you should have 2 partition on one drive and then you may finish the installation process.
After the install proces is finished you should / might have to format the other partion which will be labeld "D:" possibly"".to begin using it space.

There's a Linux program built for this, called Gnome Partition Editor (GParted for short). All you have to do is download the ISO image, and use a program such as Nero, Roxio, or Sonic, or any program that will burn ISO images to disc, to burn that image to a CD. Once you do that, just reboot your computer with that CD in your drive, and you will boot into the GParted program. GParted lets you re-partition your drive non-destructively, so you don't have to worry about losing all your data.
I would defrag your hard drive before doing this, though, although it's not required.
Email me if you need more help with it.
EDIT: DON'T use the fdisk command if you want to keep what's currently on your hard drive!

Depends.
Do u care about data ur HDD holds?
If yes : u should be looking for some disk managment software. Unfortunatelly, i don't know any free one, but i recommend Acronis Disk Director.
Unlike, other partitioning utilities it has recovery feature included.
If No; u just can use fdisk(win built-in)
Or if u have much free time u could reinstall ur OS and set/change partitions size on disk.

I wouldn't recommend partition your HD. If you want extra space, it's always better get a 2nd HD as your backup or to store your personal files.
