I was looking thru the linksys pages and under the Administrations Diagnostics tab there is a Ping test button. I tried www.yahoo.com along with www.google.com and got a 'request timed out' for both. When I tried the network addresses 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101 I got good Ping tests from them.
Is the Ping test only good for testing within a network?
Can anybody with a Linksys ping out to a www.com address?

I'm currently using a Cooler Master Praetorian (older version) as my case. It is extremely noisy because it uses 3 80 mm fans... I want to get a new case that will make less noise. If I unplug all my components from the motherboard/PSU, will there be any data loss ?

Well, I restart my computer because of installations and updates. When my, computer shuts down and restarts, my monitor doesn't open anymore and the yellow light is flickering slowly. When I press the reset button long, that's the only time it turns on and then Windows XP starts up and then the normal SOPs. What should I do for this not to happen again? It's been happening a long time now and I've asked a lot of questions lately about my ****** computer. I've reformatted it for the 3rd time since March 9, by the way since I've had these other problems http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtqpedmBmhNlQSlHHtsQgP4gBgx.?qid=20070316185047AAGZ07i http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuZAOqN_4IMWU3z560H_ckwgBgx.?qid=20070317054131AAdscc9 . I was told by a technician that I couldn't play GTA San Andreas on my PC because my video card didn't meet the requirements, and I even have the Sims 2 on my PC which requires newer systems than those that were common when this game came out.

From what i've been able to access and read I don't see the problem, I've listed my specs and the minimum requirements for the game...what's wrong?

I REALLY REALLY want to play this game, I've waited anxiously for it in the mail for a LONG time!

Display Card name: Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller

first of all explain me the significance of Firewire. I don't know any thing about it. Do you buy a firewire card for your computer? Do I have to install it into the motherboard? how does it work? And is an USB audio interface better or worse than a firewire audio interface?

It's a Asylum GeForce 5200FX 256MB AGP card.

The screen is black after I insert the card in the AGP slot and start the computer, but when I remove it and cut the computer back on, the screen is fine.

Please provide clear instructions (as I am inexperienced at this kind of thing), as well as the exact type of hardware/software that will be needed. If you have a link to a site that provides easy to understand instructions, you could provide that as well.
As a bonus, could you also tell me what the key difference is when recording to CD to play on a regular CD player vs. recording to play on a computer only. Thank you.

If somebody could help me with any of these 2 questions, I'd really appreciate it... The first and the last one.

Consider a single-platter disk with the following parameters: rotation speed: 7200 rpm; number of tracks on one side of platter: 30000; number of sectors per track: 600; seek time: one ms for every hundred tracks traversed. Let the disk receive a request to access a random sector on a random track and assume the head starts at track 0.

a. What is the average seek time?

b. What is the average rotational latency?
4.17 ms

c. What is the transfer time for a sector?
T=512/(7200)(307200)=2.31 ms or .00231 s

d. What is the total average time to satisfy a request?

I have about 20 gigs of space used up on a 40 gig hard drive, i just want to copy the stuff onto a drive and then have the computer re formatted. I think this may be the fastest way, but give me your thoughts.

I've noticed twice that my laptop rebooted for no reason, though the 2nd time MAY have been due to overheating (accidentally blocked the fan).

I'm asking because the hard drive has been making noise if the laptop is tilted (makes the noise while it is being tilted). Related? Thanks.

When i turn on the power to my computer, everything come to life... except the case power lights. Not that terrible of a problem, but there is no output from the computer!
i talked to multiple people.. they say " O Emachines... its your motherboard!" and "i replace those all the time"
so i went and tracked down an Socket 462 motherboard.. (not an easy feat here) and installed it.
SAME RESULTS!!!
i dont know what else? Processor? i have never overclocked it, and all i use the computer for is gaming and email.
im tempted to put the original mobo back in and return the 90 dollar one.
any suggestions? ... and yes.. the vid card fires up.. the power sup is on... fans are spinning .. hard drive and cd roms are working... ?? could only be the Processor left right?

I made a video that I need to get onto DVD. I have a Windows Media Center PC, but whenever I try to burn a DVD with it, it says the files aren't compatible. Could you either tell me a format it is compatable with, as well as the kind of DVD (+ or - R) or if there is a free/cheap DVD burning program. My computer has a DVD burner. I just want to make DVDs and be able to play them in a DVD player

My computer will not turn on with the graphics card in it.....Is it a possibility that its the fan? Or is it definitely the card is completely fried? I dont wanna go through the trouble to change fans if its not even a possibility.

To clarify, the computer clicks on for a split second then off. Then after that it wont even attempt to power on.(with vid card in).

So, do I attempt to switch fans? If you answer you better have a good reason or some statistics why. Don't just say "yes, or no because i say so".

Later and thanks.
