A system restore will not delete your pictures. I reformat will delete all the files on the pc.

If he did a sys restore your files should still be there, Do you remember what at least one of them was called? Do a search for that file, Click start then find files or folders all files..
If you dont remember what they were called, just put in the search *.jpg

If there gone there gone..

There are free programs - you will have to do a search yourself - that can restore deleted pictures - I did this some time ago and cannot remember the name of the program I used - but it did find all my pics.

stop using the machine immediately

when you delete thing you arenot actually deleting them, you are just telling windows to forget that they exist.

BUT using the machine increases the risk of overwriting the data

you need to download and run data recovery software

a good place to look is

http://www.imaginarynumber.co.uk - this will explain how to use the torrent network to find the software you need

once you have downloaded a program (or programs) tell it what file type to search for.

an alternative would be to run knoppix but this might be a bit too advanced for you

goodluck

Well you can start by using the computer as least a possible until you can have a trained professional look at it. The more you use your computer the more likely you will write over the deleted data thus making it unrecoverable.
