Go to Start==>Control Panel==>Sounds and Audio Devices==>Click the "sounds" tab. Where it says "Program Events" then "Windows" there will be a list of events. Click on one and press the arrow to play the sound. I believe the sound you want to delete is the "default beep" sound. If it's not, then try out different sounds till you get the right one.

I started to listen to online radio a lot so I went to Radio Shack and bought me a good pair of speakers. The sound quality is much better, and I really like the volume control knob on the speakers. When the phone rings, I can turn the volume down quickly without any problem.
