I've noticed twice that my laptop rebooted for no reason, though the 2nd time MAY have been due to overheating (accidentally blocked the fan).

I'm asking because the hard drive has been making noise if the laptop is tilted (makes the noise while it is being tilted). Related? Thanks.

Well if its anything it could be the power supply, or it just might be a virus/worm, you should format the disk

hope that helps

This does not sound like a hard drive problem to me. Normally when a hard drive fails youre computer will not start up.

You said that the second time your computer rebooted your fan was blocked. Overheating could definitely cause a reboot like this. All of the components inside your computer do not work well when they get hot and most times the computer responds to overheating with catastrophic failure, causing your computer to simply shutdown.

It's highly unlikely a failing hard drive would lead to an automatic reboot like that. It could prevent the machine from properly booting up, but not that.

Reinstall the OS sounds to me like a software issue. Just a heads up, back up important files before doing so.
