I tried to update as above but my computer still sees a CDrom not a CDROM/DVD. I had the Bios updated and still no chng. I also get a error that Windows doesn't support the Roxio Creator XE 8.2. The new DVD dr is using the same ide cable that the CDrom was on and it is shared with the Hard Drive. I set the DVD to slave also, but I can't load any CD burning software to use. I also tried to update DVD drive from manufacturer but it stated that the Windows version I had will not support the driver. Any ideas?

After my parents Hard drive stop working (constant blue screen, the drive was beeping at use also) we went and bought a new one. Yet, it had my parents and my younger brothers music on it, and pictures of passed away relatives, and more important files. But, we can't set the drive as a slave, because it wont read it. Is there any way that we can get the files without having to shell out $150 for somebody to do it? Will the "freezer" thing work here?

I heard that Win98 does not recognize P4 processor and in System Properties it shows as unknown processor, and hence does not fully make use of P4's capabilities.

I need the steps or stages of installing a software. I don't know what happens during intsallation. All I did was to type registration number, or agree with terms and condition. Then it copies files to your PC if the installation files are in CD. Then what happens? I only see the progress bar and then I type finished.

I just installed some new software on my Pentium 2 computer running Windows 95 and now the installation is almost complete except it is telling me to hit the "any" key to continue. And wouldn't you know it? I can't find the dang "any" key... Any suggestions as to where the any key is would help. By the way, does anyone know how to fix a broken cup holder on my desktop computer? I hit this button and this little tray marked CD player and a little shelf popped out so I put my 32 ounce Big Gulp on it and the silly thing broke and my BiG Gulp spilled all over my shag carpet in my double wide trailer!!!! Any help would be appreciated.

I have tried every possible avenue to install a 3D screensaver but the result is the same. I have Direct X as well as Direct X SDL plus I think I have downloaded every graphics controller microsoft offers. I have tried the on board video controller and 3 different video cards, my settings are at 32 bit color and I still haven't had any luck. Any advice ? By the way, my system is a Sony Vio desktop pc with 1716 mhz processor and 128 mb's of memory.although I can't imagine why that would matter because I have used my Virtual Aquarium on slower systems but can't now.Advice ?

I have no experience with fixing computers. But I've had mine for a few years and it shut down a few months ago and my sister's friend told me it was the motherboard that shut down. and I have to buy a new one in order for my computer to work again. Does anyone know anything about motherboards or how to fix a computer in that situation, or even the price?

From what I've seen, you always have to hit the "remove storage device" buttom on Windows before pulling it off the USB inlet. I wonder why, since you don't have to hit anything in order to remove, say, a diskette (remember them?) from the computer. All you need to do is to close the document you are working on.
I am aware that these memory devices need some kind of "closing" in order to work properly the next time they get plugged into another computer, but my question lies on "why" they need that.
I suppose in the near future all you'll need will be to whack it off and go, right or wrong?

An afterthought: aren't they wonderful little things anyway?

I am ready to switch over to the Mac world to do my music composition and DJing and live performance. (I've used PC laptops in the past). I can't figure out if I really NEED to get the 2.33GHz Macbook Pro (15.4 inch screen), or whether a 2.0GHz Macbook (13.3 inch screen) would be good enough. I prefer the smaller, lighter weight ones, and also its cheaper. But I don't want to shell out $1,000+ and end up with something that's just a little bit too slow.

Anyone out there use Macbooks for DJing, music production (Cubase, garageband, Logic, etc), or recording? Do you know how much speed & RAM is actually necessary? I don't plan on running 32 tracks of virtual instruments, maybe 8 or 9 tracks of virtual instruments at once, then 2 or 3 audio tracks, plus maybe a live track synth. I doubt I would do any live audio processing with it, as I have stand-alone effects processors for the guitar and bass guitar that will be on stage with me.
