I have no experience with fixing computers. But I've had mine for a few years and it shut down a few months ago and my sister's friend told me it was the motherboard that shut down. and I have to buy a new one in order for my computer to work again. Does anyone know anything about motherboards or how to fix a computer in that situation, or even the price?

before you buy a new one make sure it's really the motherboard to check ask a friend to let you test your hard drive and ram chips if they are both working then it's probably your motherboard you can buy one online depending on the brand and what type you want they can be up to a couple hundred dollars just make sure it will work with you already have. Some good places to look for one online is http://www.tigerdirect.com http://www.newegg.com or http://www.mwave.com for more help you can try http://www.mypcfixes.com

One test you can do to see if it's the motherboard is to push in the power button & turn on your monitor...If it doesn't post to bios (meaning it should show options for your bios on a screen for a few seconds) then more than likely it's you mobo....Best way to know for sure is to have a PC tech go through your hardware and test everything out and tell you what's good and bad...Some even do it for free! If they say Free Diagnostics then that means testing everything to make sure if its good or bad...
