I tried to update as above but my computer still sees a CDrom not a CDROM/DVD. I had the Bios updated and still no chng. I also get a error that Windows doesn't support the Roxio Creator XE 8.2. The new DVD dr is using the same ide cable that the CDrom was on and it is shared with the Hard Drive. I set the DVD to slave also, but I can't load any CD burning software to use. I also tried to update DVD drive from manufacturer but it stated that the Windows version I had will not support the driver. Any ideas?

you need third party software like nero 6 for burning cd's or cyberlink's power dvd xp for watching dvd movies. they both work under win98se & as far as i know, you don't have to install any driver for your cd/dvd drive, just make sure it is detected & configured correctly in the BIOS. if it'still won't work then maybe you have proprietary hardware that has very stringent requirements. good luck!

No new equipment today is being made for windows 98. I know there are the die hards out there but unless this is a backup computer you use to test hardware or software then you need to update to XP. Warning: Do not update to Vista on an older computer. Anyway, no hardware drivers today are written for 98 and it is that simple.

Roxio Creator XE 8.2 needs windows xp or higher also dvd drives aren't supported using windows 98se update to windows xp but because xp is almost over update to vista. if your computer can't be updated to accept xp or vista then get rid of it and get an upto date computer change with the times!

Try XP. It's only been out for like 6 years or so.
