Seriously, take it to a local computer store to check what is left that is still good. You might have shattered the motherboard, cpu if heatsink fell off, power supply, hardrives. At least a local store can see what parts are still working and what has to be replaced.

Take it to a pro (mom and pop place preferred) and get it repaired. The smell you are talking about might be your power supply or some moving part in your cdrom, hard drive, or floppy drive, if you got one. Tell the repair dudes that after they fix it that you want them to reformat and install XP. Vista will be great in the near future but it had no business being released this early. Once you start reading how much everyone loves Vista (not just one or two people saying its great) on the net that will be the time to take Vista you got with your new computer and install but not till then.

C'mon man, that's not how a proper ninja should act. Like I tell people every day, there's nothing wrong with Vista, only something wrong with you.

Some of my friends and I have been running Vista since a year before it came out, and I've never had a problem with it.

True, some older equipment/software not yet compatibel, but that's the same with ANY new system.

Use your brain to solve any problem you have. That's what a real ninja would do.

I think it deserves a proper burial. Don't buy Vista. We learn from our mistakes. Thats a costly mistake. Sorry Dude.

Man... i've never heard of anyone screwing their computer in the way you did. Try the manufacturers site or Ebay.
