I came to know that my CD ROM is not getting listed on explorer or anywhere.

Even a week ago I used it. It shows up in
start-programs-accessories-system tools-system information

It shows CD ROM in components, but nothing appears on the right hand side, when i click on it.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

I bought my computer in 2003, 1 year before PCI Express begun. Therefore I'm pretty sure that my PC motherboard does not contain any PCI Express slots. However, would it still be possible to connect the newer PCI Express graphics cards to the older PCI slots and also would it be possible to replace the PCI slots with PCI Express slots without replacing my motherboard?

Sometimes when I turn on my computer it stays on for hours and hours but it will just all of the sudden turn off by its self in as a complete cold shut down, the power to it just turns off.... other times ill be sitting here and ill barely touch the pc and *poof* it just goes off, but im not sure what’s wrong with it, is my power supply dying or something?

everything on my pc boots up great and wonderful I don’t have any software problems at all except for this one power issue, and the odd part is, is that the power issue started a month ago and ive had this pc for almost a year now.
Any suggestions as to what’s causing my problems?

I recently made a stupid mistake with partitioning my computer, and well, long story short, I reinstalled Windows. I have almost fully "recovered" from this incident, but there is one problem. Before this happened, my speakers that I plug into the jack in my computer worked before, but now it doesn't. I also have Linux on my computer, where the speakers work. I have checked the device manager and also lots of other things, including installing drivers, but nothing works. What should I do?

Right now I'm not on that computer. But the question I really have is, do I need a new motherboard if I'm upgrading the processor and hard drive and stuff like that? (This is like a 1999 computer, blah) Or does the motherboard need drivers or anything to make it work at all? It's a Dell computer (yeah.) I really don't know much about it except that it has an AGP slot still. I think it was a Dell motherboard with Intel chipset drivers. Does anyone know if I'll have to get a completely new motherboard to upgrade the hard drive and processor? Sorry for the stupid question.
