How do I tell if my power supply uses 20 pin, 20+4 pin, or 24 pin? I have a 250 watt ATX power supply if that helps...

You count the pins on the MB connector(s) of the power supply.

A 20 pin has 20 on one connector, (SOME older supplys may use 2 10 pin because some older boards used them that way.)

A 20+4 has 2 connectors, 1 with 20 and 1 with 4 in a square, (used with boards that have a separate 4 pin CPU connector; some INTEL CPU boards.)

A 24 pin has 24 on one connector.

A 250 watt supply is the bare minimum power required. If you plan on adding "power hungry" video boards or othr add ons, I suggest going to a 400 watt or larger supply.

Hi. The pin connector is located on your motherboard. Most PSUs support several pin connection types and the ATX format does as well.

try this: Corsair power elements must be examined with techniques from taking the 20/24 pin motherboard connector and jumping (certain shorting) the fairway and any BLACK cord even as that is plugged in. This simulates the action of urgent the ability button on your pc and the fan on the CPU might want to spin up. If it doesn't, its probably a dud. wish this helped :]

It's mostly likely 20 pin, to be certain disconnect the wide power cable from your motherboard and count them... (please unplug your computer and ground yourself first.)

Heres a pic of the of a 20+4. it allows connect to an 20 pin slot or a 24pin slot... a 24 pin wouldn't separate like this one.

The question is what is it for? Secondly, I suggest you talk to an electrician about it and may have to hire them so you don't get electrocuted. Your playing with 250 watts here! that will kill you.
