I bought my computer in 2003, 1 year before PCI Express begun. Therefore I'm pretty sure that my PC motherboard does not contain any PCI Express slots. However, would it still be possible to connect the newer PCI Express graphics cards to the older PCI slots and also would it be possible to replace the PCI slots with PCI Express slots without replacing my motherboard?

no a pci express card will not fit in a older pci slot and there is no way to retro fit a motherboard because of the electric architecture of the board.

ABSOLUTELY NO!!! A PCI Express slot is purposely positioned such that noone tried to put the PCI express device into the regular PCI slot...
The PCI slots are almost outdated and soon will be completely replced by PCI Express as ISA slots were replaced by PCI about a decade ago...

Replace your mobo. I know some people are suggesting retro-fits, but keep in mind, the retro-fit is not going to operate at the full speed of the pci express card. you can get a mobo with pci express for around $100 or less.

Yeah, I ran into the same thing. AGP was the thing then, and I thought I was getting a motherboard that would last a few years. But PCI-Express has really come on strong and unfortunately obsoleted all motherboards without it.
