It turns on but nothing appears on the screen.I had been after removing the processor and putting it back in again previos to this.Could I have damaged the processor or heatsink or something.The monitor definatly isnt broken because i tried it on another computer afterwards.

i have a dell dimension 5100 thats giving me some problem, the problem is that it dont power up, the light is on the motherboard but thats it, the funny thing is that if you leave it with the power cable plugged in it suddenly boots up then loses power within a couple of minutes, but then the power supply fan cuts out but the processor fan keeps running very slowly until it seems until all the power has gone, this never makes the mother board light go out. i have taken out all the pci and graphics cards and but the memory back one by one but nothing changes. like i said it boots up by itself then loses it, between boots it takes a couple of hours, according to the manual and the diagnostics lights on the front its a hardware problem ( solid amber light ). but taking out all the hardware makes no difference because it comes on when it wants. any help much appreciated. many thanks.

Disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory option such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode, restart your computer, press f8 to select Advanced Start Up Options and then select Safe Mode.

And sometimes, this appears too...
Run the driver verifier against any new or suspect drivers. If that doesn't reveal the corruption driver, try enabling special pool. Both of these features are intended to catch the corruption at an earlier point when the offending driver can be identified. If this is the first time, restart yr computer. Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.

I'm confused. What should I do? Can anyone explain, please. Thank you.

512 mb ram

80 gb disk space

my question is will is run smoothly without me regretting ever to buy/install it

I have an old Dell computer that came with windows 98 on it, but it was upgraded to xp before i even got it. i think it came with service pack 1.
will my service pack 2 install disc work?
Also, how do i format the hard drive without a software?

Now the drivers are a concern. It has external sound, video, and modem cards, but i only have the disc for the modem. Will XP detect my sound and video or am i in trouble?

i copied data from another machine into my hard disk, after copying now i cannot access my patitions, it displays the message do u want to format the partition? when i tried to convert it it displays the message conversion is not available for RAW Drives. when using nero, or my cd drive. i put in a cd/rw and it tells me not enough disc space. im using 700 mb- 8o minuetes. is there a way to burn movies using this disk. i hope im asking this right. please help.
