This is a computer i'm working on for a friend, he keeps getting an error a usb device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port, but no usb is hooked up. this is an emachine, and the hub is intigrated on the board. after a few minutes of getting this error the computer shuts off, and its been just acting really weird. I think it may be time for a new board, but I thought i'd get some other opinions.

my local d drive crashed a couple of weeks ago, now my tower beeps twice periodically at me. my comp. stays on 24/7 so this goes on all day(and night!) i looked it up on net and found this,

AWARD BIOS ERROR BEEP CODES
There are 2 main beep codes for the Award BIOS:
one long beep and two short beeps - Video error (reseat or replace video card)

two short beeps - Non-Fatal Error (reseat RAM, check other components)

now i'm not a techy with this stuff, i know how to reseat ide cables etc. so i have an idea of what i'm doing. how do i do this "reseating RAM"?

I plugged in a mouse while the PC was running and fried my power supply and possibly my motherboard. I thought it was just the power supply so I put in a new one and now when i turn on power the fan for the CPU comes on for a few seconds and then goes off then back on for less than a second and off again (repeating).

so is the motherboard fried too or what? any suggestions?

I was wondering that if the RAM runs programs faster does the CPU speed load the PC faster...I have no idea because i want to buy a 512MB RAM for my PC but it is only 600Mhz and not sure if the 600Mhz processor will hack the 512MB RAM. If you could let me know what the CPU speed is used for and if my 600Mhz CPU computer can hack a 512MB RAM and i also have 128MB pre-installed so together 640MB RAM...Thanks

My Sony Vaio desktop computer is just over a year old.
The other day i switched it on as normal and find that it won't connect to the net, won't connect to the printer and the DVD rewriter wont work.
I can still load games and programmes from disc etc.
I have re-mastered the comp, but it's still the same.
Do i have to call in a repair man/woman, or can any of you help?
Please note: I am not computer literate, so please make your answers easy for me to understand.
Many, many thanks to you all.

Obviously everyone has different needs, but I basically want a really good computer that I'm not going to have to upgrade for at least five years. I don't do a lot of gaming but I want to be able to use my PC as a PVR while I surf the net, do some image editing and listen to music. These are the specs of a computer I've built on techdepot.com - how do you think it'll suit my needs? Should I upgrade anything even further?

I just went to cyberpower, and read the list of all the components of one of their systems, and picked out each exact component over at newegg.com and put it in my shopping cart...

The end result was the comp from cyber power cost $999 with free shipping, and all the parts from newegg cost $1,069 plus shipping

I know how to build a computer, and would like to do that, but if it's cheaper to buy a pre-built, why would I want to order the parts and build it myself? It seems like more money, more work and less warranty. Am I right on this?
