Has anyone ever built a computer from scratch (tower/motherboard/cpu/ram/etc.)? What was your goal for it? How much did you spend in total? Did you keep it or did you sell it? Reason i'm asking, i was thinking about building a couple computers from scratch and was thinking about puting them on EBAY and probably selling them. Anyone have experience with this? any and all info you have is appreciated. Ideas are welcomed as long as they are good ones.

I just upgraded mother board, cpu and ram and added another hard drive. Everything works except that when I burn a disk, it burns about a song or a song and a half then the whole system locks up. The hard disk meter also gets too high during this operation. Any ideas?????

Which is the better of these 2? I'm restrained by price but the Pentium D 945 looks very attractive with its 3.4GHz .core and enormous cache of 4Mb - it costs just 115 british pounds, the Core 2 E6300 cost 125 pounds but is just 1.86GHz/core and total of 2Mb L2 cache. I know the Pentium D has heat problems- can use extar case fans for these. Can the E6300 really outperform the Pentium D 945?

I have a HP Compaq Presario ( 1 yr old ) and its CD/DVD drive stopped working. The Device Manager states "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)". The "Troubleshooter" says that it can't solve this problem. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it ! Thank you.... Ray

i have an emachines t2542. it uses a p4 2.5gh and 478 atx mobo. while on it it shut off on me, turned it on, locked up, turned it on shut off. the next day no power. i replaced the psu. didnt turn on. i ordered a asus p4v8x-mx 478 mobo. replaced it and it powered on (fans and light only) called tech support for asus (useless didnt know crap uhhh ummmm uhhhhh) there are no beeps when i turn it on. on the old mobo there is a hint of whiteness on the opposite side where the cpu was. barely able to see it coming from 4 pins (here most people would say its a fried cpu) but id like to know for sure. i heard p4 turn off b4 overheating(prob what it did when i kept turning it on in the first place) but the power supply did go bad replaced it,replaced mobo anyways, and now did it fry the cpu? would i be able to hear beeps if the cpu didnt work? do all mobo's have the capability of giving beeps or did i get a special one that doesnt? please help thanks alot.

i already payed it forward. The same day i helped this poor lady at work get her sons coputer running my computer that was stable (as much as it could be for an emachines) for 7 years goes out on me. i got her sons to work and thats what im using right now to ask this. thanks for any help

Can anyone please tell me exactly what I need in a computer to run Sims2 and all the additional expansion packs? I bought a Dell computer a year ago and was promised that it was capable of doing that, however while I was able to install it once, and a couple of the expansion packs, the later ones would not install, and it was almost impossible to install them.

I replaced the origional game with a brand new one because Dell told me it was because of a scratch on the Sims2 cd, but obviously that wasn't true as I've never been able to get it to install again.

I don't use my computer for much of anything but games and being online, particularly email. I don't need all the media stuff or the cd burning stuff.

I have a computer that I built January of '06, and until two weeks ago I have never had problems with it. Then, the power supply started giving off this burnt smell as if it was on fire and the computer would shut off. My computer is NOT overclocked and runs its hottest at 55C during high loads.

I remedied this by purchasing a new power supply, and that worked fine for the last two weeks, until today when it has just stopped working completly.

The difference between the power supplies that might be a factor is that the old one is 550W, and the new one is 400W as that is all I could get locally. Perhaps I melted that PSU.

Well I am using the one that smells like its burning to write this, so the computer works fine and it is the PSU. What can I do to prevent this in the future?

Main System Components:

Intel Pentium 4, Socket 775, 560, 3.60 GHz, 1MB Cache
Intel D925XCV Desktop Motherboard
ATI Radeon X700 Pro 256 MB Video Card, PCI-E
2 GB RAM

Anyone seen a cheaper place for computer parts than Newegg.com?
Tiger Direct is for fools, and the local computer stores all get their parts from Newegg.com.

I have an NEC 3520 AW ("W" is from latest firmware).
I want to make it into a regionfree or region 0 drive so I do not have to worry about running out of region changes.
Is there a program that I can buy or download or is there a flash utility that can change the setting to region 0?
I do not have to worry about warranty issues, as it is more than one year old and the warranty is over. I really do want to be careful, as to not ruin the drive, because it has been a very, very good burner.
Any help or experiences that anyone has ad with this issue on this drive would be most appreciated.
