Has anyone ever built a computer from scratch (tower/motherboard/cpu/ram/etc.)? What was your goal for it? How much did you spend in total? Did you keep it or did you sell it? Reason i'm asking, i was thinking about building a couple computers from scratch and was thinking about puting them on EBAY and probably selling them. Anyone have experience with this? any and all info you have is appreciated. Ideas are welcomed as long as they are good ones.

i made one for myself. i nice clear acrylic case. overclocked 3.0GHz pentium 4. cost me USD$1000 about.
not bad.
i made one for a friend and made a profit of USD$120 or so.
However, if you want to sell them on ebay, it may be a bit of a problem. because of the weight and fragility of the computer, shipping it nationwide may be a problem and will definatly take away from the profit you can receive. and how about warranty? if it spoils, are you going to travel down to their house and replace a harddisk, for example? or would you require them to send it back to you? cause no one will buy a computer without warranty. operating software is another issue that will cost you (or your customers) a lot and that'll put you behind larger companies like dell.
what i suggests is that you could build computers for your friends. make them highly customisable. so they'd be willing to pay more for them than a dell. your friends will spread the word and soon, many people will be going to you. all the best =)

Built nineteen ranging from 400MHZ up to 2.4gig with prices ranging from $250. to $900. My policy was to sell them for: my time at $20.00 per hour plus price of parts.
Reason? to make money
Selling anything on EBAY that is not easily shipped is a hassle
I've sold most of mine through Craigslist

I try it many times, but you won't make much money from it!
Cost to built it come close from $300 to $400 and you can probably sell it from about $350-$450!
Waste of time and effort!
