I have a fairly new Gateway. Nowhere does it say DVD-compatible, but in this day and age I thought that went without saying.

Windows Vista is able to recognize the disk in device manager, but it's labeled as "offline", and can't be found in My Computer. It seems I need to convert it to a "basic disk". But I already got data on that disk and don't want to format it.

My father-in-law sent me an older USB optical mouse made by Logitech. I plugged it into a USB port and received a message from windows that new hardware was installed and working properly. The light on the mouse never came on, so I tried a different USB port and downloaded the driver. The buttons work, but still no light. Do the lights burn out or is it just busted?

Hi People,

Going to be buying a new PC but wanted to ask which is better:

Intel Pentium D Processor 805 (2.66Ghz, 2 x 1MB cache, 533 Mhz
with 160GB HD
1GB RAM
256MB Graphics card
Media Card Reader
19inch Monitor
£379

AMD® Athlon 64 3800+ Processor (2.40GHz, 512K cache)
250GB HD
1GB RAM
Integrated Graphics card
19 inch Monitor
£409

The PC with the AMD athlon processor is worth more than the PC with the Intel Pentium D Processor.

I want it for playing movies, using Internet and occasional games.
and want it to be quite fast i.e for multi tasking.

Which one is the better out of the both?

Many Thanks

i have a gigabyte GA-K8n51GMF-9 motherboard that supports dual channel. one of my dimm[512 ddr] is 512 ddr sdram pc3200 [200 MHz] unbuffered[2 ranks, 4 banks] [module width at 64] and mem timings as
1]@ 200MHz 3.0-3-3-8 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)
2]@ 166 MHz2.5-3-3-7 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)
3]@ 133 MHz2.0-2-2-6 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS).

the other dimm[2] as 512 ddr sdram pc3200 [200 MHz] unbuffered[1 rank, 4 banks] [module width at 64] and mem timings as
1]@ 200 MHz3.0-4-4-8 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS).

i see that both are different in things such as the above ones[i dont know what they mean]. i got these from a program called everest. now how do i solve this problem? how can i enable dualchannel conf? my pc boots showing single channel memory. i heard that dual channel is better. i would be greatful if u could say what conditons are for dual channel.both dimms are simtronics made.

My In-Laws' computer crashed, its gonna be WAY too much to have it fixed...So, I need to know if it is possible to pull the hard drive from the old one (It was a custo built 'puter), and possibly, some way plug it into the usb, or some other port, in order to put pics (that they don't have ANYWHERE else) onto their new computer(will NOT be custom built...I think they're gonna pick up a cheapo at Wal-Mart)

What will an average pc of today need inside it ,in terms of hardware? Also, what are the current standards of hardware components, which are value for money, and deliver exceptional performance. Pls advice on brands of the hardware also. How long can they last? What other addition can be made and their purpose.Preferably like to hear views from singaporeans and malaysians since i'm living in Singapore for prices and availability of components.

The plugs are numbered. I also have a dvd-rom and disc drive. They all seem to have plugs. The reason I'm replacing cd-rom
is it didn't light up or open. Can you tell me if there are extra plugs
for adding components?

I've learned a lot since I bought my first computer from cyberpower 5 years ago, and it's time for something better.........

I am on a budget, but I need a high performance gaming rig capable of putting out high quality graphics to a HDTV on Full Settings, by that I mean, all the graphics and AI in the game turned to full tilt.

1) What is the cheapest / best way to do this, rebuild my current comp and throw away my old parts, or build a whole nother rig and have 2 comps?

2) What mobo should I get?... value is important,

3) What cpu? I was thinking a pentium D 805 ? I'd like to try overclocking

4) What vid card? want to connect to HDTV

5) Do I need water cooling? I've never overclocked before...

6) Should I by new vendor parts, or possibly look into buying a used rig similar to what I want off of ebay?

Remember that cost is a major factor, so please don't give me answers that are for the most wamminnest jamminnest parts out there that are buku bucks. Value is important!

Thanx

Well I have a 1 Ghz computer with 768 ram and a 128 Ram GFX card. Im just wondering if a slower computer processor like mine might effect total internet bandwidth and downloading rates, EVEN if the computer is squeaky clean of viruses and spyware. Any thoughts? Thanks!

The motherboard of the computer broke, so we took it to the computer repair place in town. They said they were going to use the computer for parts. The problem is I forgot to get my hard drive back. Will the computer place sell my hard drive without wiping/erasing my hard drive? I had many credit card info and my personal information on there. Can I also ask for my hard drive back, if it is still there? Are computer repair places allowed to sell my hard drive as it is? I will say they are a small family run computer repair place that I am told is professional. Any help at all from computer repair places would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

there are 5 users and no one has more than 2 or 3 gb in their "my docs" files. My HD has 30 gb and appears totally full. Is there a way for files to be duplicated or any other explanation? Everybody stores their documents in yheir "my docs" file, and is mostly pictures. Program files and windows have no more than 3 gb each also. Thank YOU

I read somewhere that a Core 2 Duo with 2.14 GHZ is the same as a 4.28 ghz single core processor. Is this true? I am putting together a new computer and I want the fastest processor avaliable which would be the best Intel Pentium D 3.2 ghz, Core 2 Duo 2.14 ghz, or should I just get a AMD.
