I have a fairly new Gateway. Nowhere does it say DVD-compatible, but in this day and age I thought that went without saying.

just to be realy sure .. do the following steps :
1- right click on My Computer > Properties.
2- choose Hardware Tab > Device manager.
3- look for the icon with with the CD .. could say something like DVD/CD Drive .. thats if u can read DVDs .

if not .. try to call the company and ask them if u could change the CD drive with a multi DVD drive .. that can read and write DVDs .. this shouldn't cost u much .. ;)

Look on the front of the door of your drive, does it say DVD or just CD? If it doesn't say DVD, then you don't have a DVD player. No, that is not automatic on all computers.

Your p/c may not be DVD compatible. look at the front of your tower,on the disc drawer does it have DVD written anywhere?. if not you can purchase one at best buy or circuit city, as well radio shack, and other places. then buy a program such as Nero, and your set to go.
