Hi People,

Going to be buying a new PC but wanted to ask which is better:

Intel Pentium D Processor 805 (2.66Ghz, 2 x 1MB cache, 533 Mhz
with 160GB HD
1GB RAM
256MB Graphics card
Media Card Reader
19inch Monitor
£379

AMD® Athlon 64 3800+ Processor (2.40GHz, 512K cache)
250GB HD
1GB RAM
Integrated Graphics card
19 inch Monitor
£409

The PC with the AMD athlon processor is worth more than the PC with the Intel Pentium D Processor.

I want it for playing movies, using Internet and occasional games.
and want it to be quite fast i.e for multi tasking.

Which one is the better out of the both?

Many Thanks

Also which PC out of the two would handle Vista better?

I'd go with the cheaper one if all you want to do is play movies, using Internet and occasional games.

This is a tough question because the second one has a far superior processor, but the first one has a far superior graphics card. I would do as the previous guy said and buy the second one and immediately upgrade the graphics card. The reason is it is easier to upgrade a graphics card than a processor.

For desktop apps, the Athlon system will be much better. For gaming, the Pentium system will be better, but only because it has a dedicated graphics card. I would go with the AMD system, then if you decide you will want to do more gaming, add a graphics card later.

I am a Mac man but from the spec provided I would buy the first.
The Intel with its own graphics card.
Reason. There is less read write needed.
Don't understand where the multi tasking fits in?

Surprising how cheap they are!

for playing movies, it is better to have a separate graphics card, the first choice has a separate graphics card with big ram. so i would chose the first one.
also the only benifit for the second one is the size of the disk, you are paying extra money for it, and loosing lots of RAM that will be shared and allocated for graphics.
so, go for the first one.
