I have a HP Compaq Presario ( 1 yr old ) and its CD/DVD drive stopped working. The Device Manager states "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)". The "Troubleshooter" says that it can't solve this problem. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it ! Thank you.... Ray

Unplug your computer, then open it up and make sure the drive is connected.

Try this.

1. Reboot the compute, go into the bios and see if the drive is found.

2. If not, shut down, then open your case up, check to see if the cables are connected.

if so, then your drive is fried, call compaq, and have them send you a new drive.

Is not then plug them in, reboot and see if that fixes it.

May i ask if you booted your computer with a flash drive in it. Sometimes this will knock out your cd drive.

Just a thought....

Here is Microsoft's idea on how to resolve your problem. Look for "Code 41".
