I just upgraded mother board, cpu and ram and added another hard drive. Everything works except that when I burn a disk, it burns about a song or a song and a half then the whole system locks up. The hard disk meter also gets too high during this operation. Any ideas?????

Try configuring your burning software to burn at a slower speed. You said you get a hard disk message. Make sure you have plenty of hard drive space (c:) in case that application uses temp folders on your hard drive to transform data before burning. If you just added another hard drive. Make sure your original HD has unused space and isn't too filled up. I would try that stuff first before some other responses i read. Restart your computer before trying again to give yourself a clean slate and to make sure no hanging applications are causing the issue. Do not run any other apps while burning as you may be overloading your system. Also it could be a problem with the software not being compatible with your drive. I've had this problem. If all else fails, try another burning application.

Just a thought, if you haven't done so since your upgrade, reinstall Windows.

Check/replace the data cable for all IDE devices.

If it still doesn't work, you should check the settings in the BIOS and disable all optimizations for all drives.

At this point it would be essential to have replacement parts to do substitutions in order to isolate the faulty device.
