Which is better? Pentium D 945 (3.4GHz/4Mb L2) or Core 2 Duo E6300 (1.86GHz/2Mb L2)?

Which is the better of these 2? I'm restrained by price but the Pentium D 945 looks very attractive with its 3.4GHz .core and enormous cache of 4Mb - it costs just 115 british pounds, the Core 2 E6300 cost 125 pounds but is just 1.86GHz/core and total of 2Mb L2 cache. I know the Pentium D has heat problems- can use extar case fans for these. Can the E6300 really outperform the Pentium D 945?

The core 2 duo's are pentium's newest thing, so the speeds are deceiving. while the duo seems to be slower, it will vastly outperform the pentium D.

Yes it really does outperform it, the architecture is that much better.
