i tried to install the modem in my motherboard but failed .But during my serious efforts i hard some fine cracking sounds(as heard when a plastic sheet is bend ) . is this will effect my motherboard performance later ,it is running ok now?

Possibly, but chances are if it's working fine now, if you do not molest it again, it should be good for a long while still.

It sounds like you got some static electricity inside your computer when you were installing your modem. I'd say that if the modem is working fine and all else is fine, then don't worry, everything is fine. You can go to System Information and see what IRQs the modem is sharing and those will more than likely be the effected parts (if any) due to static damage. Just check 'em out. Chances are though, you're fine... :-) good luck to ya!

Is that cracks from Motherboard?
Get the system checked by any Hardware Eng:

Never rely on the plastic waffers.
Use it untill it is running properly and do not try to overuse it.
It may get short circuit.

Consult the H/w Engg or tech

please be clear that frm where have you heard the cracking sound..whether was it a modem or mb. if its a mb please turn on the system and check whether the system boot up normally or not..it may be even modem..so dont worry if your system boots up normall..k
