For example, what symptoms/signs will I see if I need to get more RAM? Or a better processor? If my pc starts getting slower due to adding more software do I add more RAM? Basically, I'm asking what symptoms my pc will show when it needs either memory, RAM, or processor. thanks.

How do I know if I have a AGP or PCI slot for my video card?

Lets say i burn some videos onto a DVD±RW, then the next day i burn another video onto the same video. But it over wrote the previous video, how do i keep this from happening. I tried Create Multisession Disk, but when i did that, it did the same thing and it over wrote what i had already done. Is there a free DVD burner program that will not make this mistake. Also to let you know, when i placed the disk into the drive for the second time, it didn't even read that i had already previous data on the disk.

Also is there a free program that will put it into DVD Format.

Also just one more question, does buying a DVD±R prevent this, since data can't be over written, or will it over write it anyway, which can cause the videos to mess up.

I built this PC a while ago...but I chose the wrong case for this CPU - it runs TOO hot. I have one side of the computer completely open and exposed to the air and it runs at 40C idle and around 50C running games or intensive applications. With the case closed, all temps jump about 15C to 25C. This is dangerous, no? Also, as the computer heats up - the fan speeds up and gets VERY loud. Any thoughts on a cheap way I could fix these annoying problems?

My new ATI video card seems to be working strangely. When I play The Sims 2, on one occasion, my video card will not respond (or deadlock) and prompts me to restart the computer. But, when I saw my desktop (after The Sims 2 was closed) the graphics and resolution was still the same.

Occasionally, the computer shuts down without prompt and permission when I play The Sims 2.

Could it have been too high graphical settings of The Sims 2? Or a hardware failure? Please help me resolve this problem, it bites back my The Sims 2 Movie Making business.

Thank you.

I'm stalling windows xp pro sp1 on a PIII, 333Mhz, 32MB video, 40G HD. The first part was successful with the blue screen: the HD formatting, copying of windows files but when the pc RESTARTS to continue with the 2nd part of installation the message 'error loading operating system' appears, then it stops there, the GUI installation never continue, I tested the HD with other PCs and it's ok. Does the pc needs the original OEM CD because previously it has XP installed, I just can't find its original XP cd, i'm re-installing with different cd XP. Better yet, what are other causes?

I'm about to order a desk top from Dell and need advise to see if what I picked is a good system.

Module: Dell Precision Workstation 690(750W-32bit) Dual Core Intel Xenon Processor 5140, 2.33GHz, 4MB L2, 1333

Operating System: Windows XP Progfessional

Memory: 2GB DDR2 SDRAM FBD Memory, 667MHz, ECC(4 DIMMS)

Graphic Cards: 128MB PCle x16 nVidia Quadro FX550, Dual VGA or Dual DVI or DVI + VGA

Boot Hard Drive: 160GB SATA 3.0Gb/s, 7200 RPM Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst Cache

Second hard drive: Same as boot hard drive

Hard Drive Configuration: C4 All SATA drives, RAID 0, 2 Drive total config.

48XCDRW and 16XDVD+/-RW, w/Cyberlink PowerDVD and Roxio Creator

SATA/SAS Integrated Card for connecting hard drives.

I kind of picked them as they sounded good. But I don't know much about computers and all those numbers and letters.

I'll be using my old VGA monitor and speakers.

This will be for small business application. Not playing games on it.

Thanks

I bought a cable that would connect my IDE hard drive to my USB 2.0 port. In the bottom right hand corner of the screen, it shows that it's connected, but it's not in "My Computer". The installation guide just said to set the jumpers to Master, and plug it in. No drivers were needed since I have XP. I've also tried setting the jumpers to slave and it's still doesn't work. I've restarted with it plugged in, but that just messes things up because my computer doesn't know which drive to boot from, so i have to go to the BIOS and tell it to boot from C, because when the jumpers are set to Master, I have two Master Hard drives. I've also restarted with it plugged in as a Slave. I bought this on eBay, so I'm expecting a very slow response time, so I wanted to see if any one here knew.

Im somewhat new to computers, and i got my Dell a little more than a year ago, not realizing what a huge mistake I made. Recently I have been getting into online gaming, like StarCraft and Rainbow Six 3, and have realized how much my Pentium 4 sucks compared to my best friends Athlon 3400. After little play time, my computer sounds like its about to explode and gets ultra laggy to where I cant do anything, so I have to shut it down and let it rest. After some research I decided that im going to build my own computer probably with the Athlon 3800 dual processor but I dont have a lot of money and am trying for under a $400 budget. Some people say the 3800 dual is going to have a huge price drop soon from $150 at newegg.com within the next 2-3 months, but i have no idea. Anyone know about this? I would like to be able to play recent games, and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for decent processors. I want something that wont get outdated for atleast 4 years. Thanks
