When the PC starts, it's giving 2 very short beeps, followed by (I think) 8 standard beeps. My PC is using AMI BIOS and I've looked up the POST beeps. I am somewhat confused with the number of beeps I am supposed to compare with. Should I take into account the initial 2 very short beeps (totalling the beeps to 10) or exclude them (totalling the beeps to 8)? So far, from the AMI BIOS site, 8 beeps means there's something wrong with my display read/write. I am not sure if this refers to my motherboard or my video card... 10 beeps means there's something wrong my CMOS read/write...help..

I have a 3 year-old Dell 2350 Dimension with Home XP SP-2, all MS updates, new 160-ATA Seagate @ 7200, 1GB DDR SDRAM @ 266, Celeron 2.0, Intel 845GL, PCI: 33 MHz Bus, BIOS chip: 2 Mb (256 KB), Clock: 400-MHz, hooked-up to Comcast Broadband. The system is free of virus, malware, etc. It gets over-loaded too easily, slow surfing, CPU gets a workout maxxing out, etc. I thought that with the upgrades I made I'd have a decent workhorse but I'm beginning to think that I should have just spent the post-tax dollars on a new PC. Too late now. I be quite the embicil. I hope that whatever my slug needs will not require re-formatting, of course, as I have just gotten things configured the way I like, except for the so-so performance. Good advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. Dave

What is the most important component to have for fast computer speed?

I've heard many conflicting opinions. Some say it's the amount of memory in the RAM. Some say it's the processor speed(i.e. higher the gigahertz the faster). Anyone out there know?

I need to get a new pc for school and i am most likely building it myself. Anyhow I was looking into getting one of the new intel core 2 duo processors, if not then my 2nd option is a intel pentium d 950 processor. What I want to know is is it worth waiting for the core 2 duo? is it really that much better than the 950? Also my friend told me a store she goes to told her that they are gonna be hard to get because they dont know how to manufacture it fast enough (the core 2 duo) is this true??

I want to buy a new HDD, and want to connect it through s-ata. Does it matter in which connector I plug the s-ata cable? And I heard that I need a power calbe extension for the s-ata hard drive. I have a Asus mother board A8N-SLI DELUXE and an ide WD2500JB-00GVA0 hdd. Now, the HDD has a 4 pins power connector. Will it work for the s-ata hard disk? Or I will really need an extension to plug it in the disk?

The hard drive on my PC is nearly full. I've done a clean-up which has freed some space but there is nothing else I can delete. What would be the best way to expand the memory on the hard drive? Would an external hard drive do the trick? If so how do these work?

As you can probably tell I know very little about computers so please be kind!

i just need a computer that has XP so i can use certain programs like adobe reader 7 and such. right now i have a 10 year old gateway with 733 mhz pentium 3 proccessor and i play games like civ3 and sim city 4(barely plays sim city 4 so i quit playing it) i've also only got 192 ram. and i run windows ME(wich sucks). so i've been thinking of getting a cheaper walmart sold PC with a celeron or sempron processor both of wich have at least 512 of ram and windows XP. some even have flat screen monitors all for around 400 bucks( am on a budget preparing to bring my fiancee into the country). what should i get? will this new system with non pentium processors play my old games?(i'm not worried about playing the newer graphic intensive games.) some one with good computer Knowlege please help.
