I want to buy a new HDD, and want to connect it through s-ata. Does it matter in which connector I plug the s-ata cable? And I heard that I need a power calbe extension for the s-ata hard drive. I have a Asus mother board A8N-SLI DELUXE and an ide WD2500JB-00GVA0 hdd. Now, the HDD has a 4 pins power connector. Will it work for the s-ata hard disk? Or I will really need an extension to plug it in the disk?

The S-ata cabel should be connected into the 0 connector on the motherboard. Some times they are labelled as #1, use the lowest numbered SATA slot on the motherboard. The HD itself can get power from your standard power supply as long as you are not going above the output of the power supply. There is not an extension needed.

most bios will autodetect for new hard drives,
u should only need a extenstion cable/connector if it doesnt reach. but if it doesnt auto detect u press either f1 del f2, and then goto hard drives and autodetect.
