I work on PC's for a living and am typing this out with a G5 PowerMac, I also run linux here. I personaly feel that a Mac is a better machine. I have not run a new one with the intel but Macs are built well.
First the Mac system and the OS are made by the same company, you don't get the not compatible issues that you see with windows.
Second OS X is built on a Unix core, it is not impossible to get a virus but it is muuuuch less likely than with windows (you can still pass virus along that are attached to email's)

I run my mac 24/7 same with linux, I do everything I need with it and most of what I need was included (web, email, video editing, pic editing, Flash, and on and on) I have the 2 GHz PPC dual core with 1GB of ram. My system runs smooth 99.99% of the time, no viruses (I do scan so I don't pass anything along) I can run multiple memory intensive app at once with no hicups.

The only reason I run windows at all is for work, there are some things that you may need windows for but with the new intel macs and boot camp it is not an issue.

I suggest going to an apple store and test driveing one. My wife hated the fact that I ran Macs at home and once she tried it she wants to get rid of her less than a year old XP laptop for a intel MacBook.

So I guess what I am saying is that yes alot of it is personal, but you won't miss all the time spent "fixing or tweaking" your windows machine. Also for what comes on a mac (hardware and software) dollar for dollar the mac is a better deal.

My opinion is both are good, try them out in the shop and see which one you prefer. If you have been a PC user for so long, you might find it difficult getting used to a Mac (especially the idea of right clicking the mouse, which is not really a part of the Mac, though I believe they are adding it now).

Mac hardware is better looking than PCs (to me, Thinkpads, which is what I use, look very nice, but still not as good as Macs). And the graphical interface is probably nicer, although that is subjective.

On the other hand, PCs are better for a lot of software that has never been written for Macs, and corporate use, and for the main games titles, if you play on a computer.

Performance-wise, there is no difference. Yes, both sides could show you data proving they are better, but the way you use a PC, you are unlikely to ever hit the limits, and it depends which version of either you buy anyway. So that really is a red herring.

And I wouldn't pay any attention to the historical issues with either, such as whether Apple invented the Windows interface, or why Apple switched to Intel processors. To the user that is all irrelevant.

Also I wouldn't put much store by the idea that Macs are more reliable. I've had them freeze up and had to be rebooted plenty of times, and on the other hand my PC can run for weeks without rebooting. And I am sure some people find the converse to be true.

I use a PC mostly, but used a Mac for years for desktop publishing. I found them both good. I use a PC because I get annoyed at the amount of software that doesn't work on Macs.

I work on both. I have had a string of PCs at work. We have 4 Macs and one PC at home. Macs are a bit more stable. It's certainly easier to install and uninstall programs on Macs. WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) is more reliable on the Mac. The biggest downside of Macs is that a lot of software is written only for PCs, although the new intel chip Macs are supposed to be able to run Windows too. Other than that, I tend to like Macs better. And they definitely are less vulnerable to viruses, mostly because the virus makers prefer to concentrate on the more dominant platform. For that reason, I kind of hope Macs don't become too popular! I am not a graphics person, but the ones I know all use and prefer Macs.

I don't work for Microsoft, Hah. Mac's are better in graphics, more secure in not getting or contracting viruses, the only downfall to a Mac is alot of software and support, etc. are not made or are always fewer and farther between. Personally I prefer the Standard PC, either find someone that has a Mac, and test it against the PC, you will find both have the Pro's and Con's to compete with each other..

well I haven't had much experience with macs yet, but I ordered a macbook for college, I believe macs are the next thing. I think they do have viruses just not as many. The downside that I thought of is that windows is more popular right now and some of the stuff you can't run on macs like games and things. But I would say that macs are better

I went to college for a year and it is personal preference. I have worked with both PC and MAC. As far as graphics go I like MAC. They have alot of great programs and off the wall outcome. PC though is began to become just as good if not better than MAC.
So once again it is personal preference .

I know what you mean. I used to live in Ohio, where everyone used a pc. When i came to Los Angeles, ca, i found that everyone was using macs. The whole system is different than pc's. I was so confused! But yea, i saw those mac ad's saying that they're a lot better than a pc, and im starting to think that.

Its true, macs dont get viruses because hackers haven't invented viruses to bypass mac's. Their programming is way different that pc's.Just 2 months ago, mac's just started running windows, so im thinking about buying one too. The prices for macs are more than pc's, but its worth it in my opinion.

My mistake, mac's are starting to get viruses. I guess they bypassed that :( Hmm..

MAC is making that commercial because PC's are making them lose a whole lot of business. MACs get viruses too, and PC's can do the samething a MAC can do and they work better on that.

It truly depends on what you do. If your a gamer you want a PC. If your a media type of person the mac might be a better choice. If your in the market for a new machine give the new intel macs a serious look. They can run both windows and OSX. Good luck!

Considering that you have available a lot more hardware, Software and Os Choice, PCs are the best. But in some circumstances Macs can be better.
